Hi all,

I have an am very happy with my MZ-R900. I'm thinking of buying a cheaper portable, though, because I need the R900 for work and don't have the ready cash to replace it if it gets lost/broken.

Was thinking about the 510, but I'm wondering

(a) What HiMD is likely to retail for when it comes out this spring (probably far too expensive for my budget...)

(cool.gif If it's probable that "oldschool" units will see a big price drop when HiMD comes out. If the Can$200 510 will become Can$100 in just a few months, I might as well wait...

Uh... sorry. A bit more Googling answered my pricing question.

The table is still open to rampant speculation, though, about what will happen to pricing on older-school MD players...

i wouldn't call the 510 "old school" it sports NetMD and more advanced features than that of the R series of units...that and it's a pretty recent release...IMO the N510 would probably drop once the Hi-MD unit come out but not too sure of the pricing...i'm thinking of getting the NH1 unit once it comes out myself but that would approximately be about A$800-900 which is reasonable to me...they will also release more lower end units but i'm not too sure how much they will cost...i would probably think it will be similarly priced to the units now (depending on the series)...

Hi Matt!

Keep trolling eBay for cheap units--you can probably score an ugly but fully funcitonal LP unit for US$50-70. Also keep an eye on larger retail outlets that carry the current lineup of MDs. Most of the bigger stores will throw older models on clearance rather than send them back to the manufacturer when they have to make room for the new models. It requires some footwork or a phone directory, but you never know.

If you're not in a big hurry to get one, keep an eye on eBay to see what shows up.
