Hi!

Today I'm intending to by a MZ-N710 but I'm concerned about recording quality. Any known drawbacks why i shouldn't buy it?

The price is almost 300$ for the unit and some more (~75) for the sony stereo mic (don't remember the specs) but i'm in an urge. (Monday the new semester starts and i want to be recording then).

Maybe you could recommend some other unit with line-in/mic-in? (btw, what is funny - local sony dealers don't sell MZ-R900 for a reasonable price, so getting that one is not an option sad.gif )

Please, if possible answer ASAP (off to store in a few hours)

Thanks in advance,

Inc

u could also go for a Sharp DR420 unit as well...they have really good recording features and awesome sound...but other than that the N710 is a reasonable unit for recording...many fellow boarders have it and they seem to be happy with their purchase so i wouldn't worry too much about it...they still sell the R900 in Sony Stores???

You can get a much better--and smaller--mic for the same price as the Sony DSP70 from Soundprofessionals or Microphonemadness. Look at frequency response--Sony only goes down to 100hz (no low bass notes), other mics down to 20hz (more than two octaves lower). If you're recording speech it doesn't matter, but if you're recording music it's a world of difference.
