Generally, the knowledge you gained with the A-1 is still useable with a digital slr. By sticking with Canon, you usually get a good camera, but if you want to know exactly, I suggest, that you go to http://www.dpreview.com/ and check out the reviews and the sample galleries by yourself.

You might give http://www.123di.com/Affiliate.asp?affid=001 a look as well for a book.

And the Shortcourses too: http://www.shortcourses.com/

Hope this helps...

i use mainly Nikkor and Canon lenses...i've had the chance of using higher quality lenses made by Leica and Carl Zeiss off a friend who is very into photography and stuff and yeh they're really nice...but outta my budget range as i do it as a hobby and not as a profession...i usually look for the ones that have ED stamping on them...and re ur very 1st post...i've managed to muck around with the Canon Rebel camera in store and damn does it take nice pics...highly recommended for the price... tongue.gif

hav noo idea actually...Leland said that it was using a different battery as the N10 and didn't say that it was inbuilt...soo if we're lucky we may have the NH1 having a removeable Li-Ion battery...^^ yay back to the good old days when they used to use Li-Ion batteries on MD's... tongue.gif

the only brands i've used before are Nikon, Canon and Minolta in normal SLR film photography as i have a few old models lying around the house...in terms of digital i usually stick with the trend...either units from those 3 manufacturers make nice units that take really nice photos so it just depends on the price in the end i spose... tongue.gif i would prefer using Canon's EOS-1D over Nikon's D100...but then again there is a massive difference in price...

  • 3 months later...

I took a photography class my last year of high school. I was sad I didn't start earlier; it was sort of fun.

I have a cheap SLR, tho I use it. I'm slightly considering getting another SLR, but I'm not sure with the way film is going.

I have a Nikon Coolpix2100, and I'd recommend it highly (as well as a Coolpix3100, the 3MP version.) to people for general use. However, they don't make them anymore. And the benefits I found with the camera (used CF, mainly) and the nice things about it (came with a CRV3 battery; now they come with crappy alkalines) just tells me Nikon really isn't caring/is becoming more "competitive." I'd just as soon recommend a Panasonic with a Leica lens...

I've toyed with the Digital Rebel (if I recall correctly, that's 300D to you people outside of North America) and it's pretty fun. It's supposed to work with all old EOS lenses, but I found out today that this, in fact, is not the case as someone came back with one and showed me how it errored out 80% of the time when he had the lens on.
