KJ_Palmer
That's synchro recording, where the recorder starts and stops recording in time with the source. Most current MD recorders have some variation of this, though Sony's only have it for digital sources. Most Sharps can addtionally synchro record with the microphone. PDOG58
ahh ok, THat is what I thought. But, i have a follow up question. Does the MD unit have to be on for it to be active? Or can it be off and once it detects a signal it turnes on and recored?
SteelMonkey
So it sounds like I am out of business then with the Sony and may have to wait for Sharp to come out with a model of HiMD? THANKS!!!

Or can it be off and once it detects a signal it turnes on and recored?Yes the recorder has to be on and in Record/Pause mode. This is based on current Sony MD units, but the Hi-MD are likely to very similar in operation. So it sounds like I am out of business then with the Sony and may have to wait for Sharp to come out with a model of HiMD? THANKS!!!Yes, it might be worth waiting for the Sharps to come out as they're likely to have more user-friendly features. But, of course no announcements have been made yet...
