mdfan
Hi- new to the site and concert recording. I already own the Sony n505. I want to be able to record live concerts- stadiums, bars, and festivals. Would someone give me some direction with selection of microphones, and any other gear needed. I dont have a large budget for this- I plan to convert to cdr to play in my car. Thanks!
Guest Anonymous
MZ-N505 only has a line-in jack. That means you need to boost the power of a microphone because line-in expects a signal from something powered, like a CD player. The cheapest way, and it's not that cheap, is to get a microphone and a battery box. www.soundprofessionals.com and www.microphonemadness.com have well-trusted equipment and lots of info. No need to go for the premium gear--the lower-priced binaural mics sound just fine. Don't get Sony's overpriced mics unless you hate bass, since they don't pick up much. There's a cheap Radio Shack mic/preamp (made for hearing-impaired people) that probably won't sound as musical, and Archos apparently makes a mic-preamp combo, but I haven't tried either one. You do know that you're going to have to transfer the concert to your CDR in realtime, right? (MD headphone out to PC soundcard line in). The best software for it--transfers the track marks and titles--is WinNetMD, not free but under $20. http://christian.klukas.bei.t-online.de/fi...md/winNetMD.htm Or you can record into a sound-editing program like freebie Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ but it will come out as one long track and you'll have to edit it later. Web Missy
Just recently I re-discovered my n505. I've only use it a couple of time since recieving it as a xmas gift when it first came out. As discussed by 'mdfan', I would also like to record concerts i.e. my band only to discover no microphone input! I followed the link below like you suggested for a battery box and microphone! www.soundprofessionals.com and www.microphonemadness.com It all went...... whossh.... splat..... over my head. Any suggestions on whats what??? and what connects where? Cheers Lost Soul
A440
Get standard binaurals and the most basic battery box/module, and you'll be happy with the recording. The mic plugs into the battery box/module. The battery box plugs into Line-In. Push Record. The battery box (or battery module--one of those little gizmos with a 9V battery hanging out) provides enough power so that the signal is strong enough for Line-In. With a mic jack, you wouldn't need the battery box (although it still helps) because a Mic jack means it's providing power from the MD player. gas233
Thanks for the awesome info, I had the exact same question! I prefer seeing something in a store and shopping around, so I was wondering if you knew what the item would be called in a store like Radio Shack? What exactly should I be looking for there? Thanks so much for your help!
Web Missy
Thanx for the info x
A440
Radio Shack doesn't make something this specialized, and battery boxes aren't much to look at anyway: a plastic box with plugs on it. Both Sound Professionals and Microphone Madness have 30-day guarantees if things don't work for you.
