Currently I am the dismayed owner of a Mz-N505.

No matter what I do, no matter what I reinstall/install again, I can't get this thing to record. Currently I have been trying to use Sonic Stage. I installed the driver, and the program. I imported the files. And I attempted to burn. For most of the time, it would freeze up at 95% on the first song, and repeatedly flash edit. The only way to turn it off was to remove the power source. Finally, after much toil, it was working. It made all the proper sounds, songs were transferred, everything was great. Until it finished. As I happily unplug the MD, awaiting my newfound library of songs, EDIT suddenly pops up again (I'm not connected to computer anymore). And it keeps flashing, and "attempting to edit". So I'm like ok, and let it run for a little bit. After a while I get fed up and am forced to remove power source. Once I plug it back in, loe and behold I see a blank cd. Thinking that maybe this was caused by premature unplugging, I try it again. Now, instead of even attempting to transfer, EDIT immediatly starts to flash. After about 10 seconds, all the songs that are supposed to be transferred disappear out of the MD window (right side), and I am soon greeted with a wonderful:

"Failed to authenticate (sp) device/media."

SonicStage then proceeds to percieve the device as 0.0 mb, and the player continues to flash EDIT. If I unplug, I am still faced with the blank MD msg. I have reinstalled the driver, the program, and still am faced with the same results. What can I do!??????

PS. I have tried this with multiple minidisks (all blank).

PSS. sorry about the length.

Welcome to the forums.

You should uninstall all NetMD related software [sonicStage/OpenMG/RealOne] through Add/Remove Programs, along with the NetMD driver [leave N510 pluged in, go to Device Manager, right-click and uninstall] and the 'OpenMG Limited Patch' things. Go through your drive, clean out and delete anything that looks related to NetMD/Sony [likely in your C:Documents and Settings[user name] and in C:Program Files].

Make sure that your N510 is not connected to your computer. Reboot, and install the NetMD drivers from your disc. Reboot, install SonicStage.

just make sure u have all the right cables...for an analogue transfer u need 3.5mm stereo cable connecting from the LINE OUT of your PC's soundcard to the LINE IN on your MD...just fire up a program such as mp32md or Creative MD Center and hit play (on your PC) and record (on your MD) simultaneously and it should start recording...for digital it's similar but u need a different cable, an optic one (usually Sony supply you with square->mini plug TOSLink cable)...connect one end of the cable from ur PC's OPTIC OUT to your MD unit's OPTIC IN and do the same thing as with analogue recordings...
