I have already made a lot of discs on my home unit and I want to be able to play them in the car. The ol' MZ-E40 came with my bundle, but is kinda bulky. I will be connecting to my Nakamichi CD-400 via the aux input. I have a mini plug to RCA adapter cable that I think will work. What features I would like the portable to have: 1) Small case size, 2) mini plug output in addition to headphones out, 3) Is a player only. I wonder if I can just plug into the headphone output and use that for my head unit input. How would the volume control affect distortion? Would it act as a "gain"? KJ_Palmer Posted March 8, 2004 Report Share Posted March 8, 2004 In fact most MD headphone outs double as a line output for connection to external devices. Only the higher end Sonys (eg. N10, N910), but all (I believe) Sharps are properly impedence matched for line out. The Sonys have a line out mode (menu selectable), the Sharps by setting the volume to maximum. Christopher Posted March 8, 2004 Report Share Posted March 8, 2004 I would definitely recommend a Sharp player with an digital amp, like the DS8 or DS70. These are available at audiocubes.com, bluetin.com and a few other retailers. I have a review of the DS8 and pictures in the link in my signature. I'd probably go with the DS70 since it has an equalizer, but most who have the unit say they don't really use that feature. If I go with the DS8, do I need a mimi plug capable of taking advantage of the "Polar separated headphone adaptor to completely separate the left and right signals"?
