Resoman
Friends - I'm trying to transfer a live recording from my Sharp 821 to my computer for a bit of editing and transfer to CD. I haven't done this for a while, and my XP Pro configuration seems to be messed up. I have no Sound Recorder icon in The Entertainment group of Accessories in the Program List and, when I go to the Control Panel/Sounds and Sound Devices and try to place the Volume Control on the Taskbar, I'm informed that the Volume Control is not installed. This stuff used to work but it's been a while since I've done this kind of thing. Can I reinstall the missing components from the Windows XP disk without a total reinstall? What else do I need to do? I'm transferring my recording via an iMic USB device, and will use CoolEdit 2000 once I've got the file created. My sound card seems to be functional; I can hear audio CD's, but have no volume control on the computer. Many thanks in advance, Resoman
Shepherd
I'm a bit of a doofus and no XP expert, but if I were in your shoes I'd try reinstalling the drivers for the sound card or, failing that, unplug and plug in the sound card (assuming it's not integrated) so Windows recognizes it as a "new device" and runs through the install process. The driver reinstall might-might result in XP restoring the volume control as a reaction to the "new" device. Of course it might NOT, but no harm in trying. I think. - Matt
