hey there everyone,

i'm sharing the same problem as a post by 'nookie'. and this is totally frustrating. out of nowhere, my mz-n707 just stopped reading my discs. just like nookie's i placed the disc in just the other day and it kicked in just like it should and then...........nothing! the battery icon is there, even my preferance of sound icon is there. but it just keeps 'whirrring' along. i cant stop it, i can't play it. it basically has turned itself into a useless whirrring machine.

please help. is it just a brain fart? is there something i'm just not doing? a button to be pressed?

i talked to a tech guy breifly and he said it's probibly an issue with the lazer and could be a costly repair.

if so SHAME ON YOU SONY! i've only had this thing a year and a few months. infact 2 months after warrenty!

does this happen alot to you guys/gals?????

I have the same problem with my MZ-707. It just spins the MD up, waits a few seconds, and then reports no disc. I unfortunatly am not covered by a warranty, so a repair by sony would be in upwards of $150. Im not really willing to spend this much money...

Ill restate it again, from my previous thread: Does anyone know the specifics of this problem, or what other places can we look to for repair besides sony? I believe the stock price of the 707 is around $225, and I would prefer a repair cost less than 50% of the overall cost to buy the thing.

oh my sorry for taking soo long...what's happened is that ur len's off balanced..it's not angled properly probably due to some hard shocks the unit was subject 2 at ur own risk here's what u can do...open the unit..take off the back carefully first then the front lid...remember to unplug the cable runing from the unit's chip board to the lid.. then be very careful  ...now u should have a tiny screwdriver ready..preferably flat tip..then if u look next to the lens...u'll c something that looks like a lil silver philips tip screw...becareful it's very very soft..u can't just spin it around now apply very lil pressure to the screw driver n spin the screw say 15 degrees... probably clock wise first..then put the unit back together pop a disc inside...n play ..if the problem persist then go back in the unit again i do it another 15 degrees clock wise..do it i believe the most 4 times...do more at ur own risk..just keep twirking it till it's set..u'll know when it's set cuz when u pop in a disc for instance the lens won't go all the way down to the end of the disc rather it'd just back up to the start of the disc read the toc n then then start playing..now after trying it clock wise..n it still won't work...try doing it anti clock wise the same procedure ..remember not to apply too much pressure on turning the screw driver nor pressing it into the screw..(it's not a screw actually just something with a philips head with a very tiny spring underneath.) b very very careful while doing this procedure..or else u'll damage the lens...n beyond that i can't tell u what u'd have to do..but that's sure to do the trick if u do it right....
