People have told me that an LP2 recording done optically (from my DVD player) will be of a better quality than an LP2 recording through SonicStage USB... If I use Exact Audio Copy to digitally extract the .wav file from a CD and then import this into SonicStage at LP2 quality wouldn't this be exactly the same as the optical transfer? The only place I could see where the quality would suffer is if the codec on the computer used to convert the file is of a lesser quality than on the actual minidisc unit.... It would be a lot more convienient to have all the tracks on the computer and transfer that way than opticalally in real time... but if the quality is lower that way then I'd use optical. I really didn't understand why (and wasn't given a reason) but people said they could definately hear the difference between optical and USB recorded LP2.... I did some tests today and there is no way I can tell that's for sure!! Does anyone else have an opinion they could offer? In theory it should be valid, but the extremely small variance between optical and USB in the LP2 sense is not even worth worrying about anyway..more or less a psycological assurance optical "is better". I personally can't even tell the difference between SP and LP2 but it took me a while to convince myself it would be ok to record my albums in LP2.... just knowing it's second best sucks! On a damaged CD, the DVD player and EAC will each use different methods to try to correct the errors, and EAC ought to do better because it doesn't have to analyze and correct the error while playing in realtime like the DVD player does. Anyway, for sure, a SonicStage transfer from WAV will not sound worse than a recording from CDDA on a DVD player. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
