jkrzok
Has anyone had any bad experiences with any solvents to get sticky residue off of MDs? I'm wondering if the cleaner damaged the disc itself or caused any problems with a recorder/player. As reusable as MDs are, you sometimes have to replace their sticker labels, which sometimes leave residue. Are there any blanks that allow you to write on the disc itself? Sharpies seem to do fine but the blanks I'm looking at all have logos, etc where I would write any disc information. It seems that a white color would be best as well. Or are there any erasable labels? I've seen those for CD-RWs.
Christopher
Not sure about the other aspects of your question, but you should look into ES discs for a plain white blank. You can even pencil on them.
KJ_Palmer
I have occasionally used this stuff called "Sticky stuff remover" for removing label residues from floppy disks and once a plastic CD player. It works amazingly well and leaves a clean smooth surface, then you can wipe any residue off with warm water. Haven't tried an MD yet, but it should work, it's supposed to safe on plastics. You might be able to get some in a local hardware store...
lewchamp
In Canada we have a product called GOO BE GONE which works and will make removing lables and glue no problem.
BJ
There's "Goo Gone" in the States, too. It's basically just citrus-y lighter fluid (like Ronsonol) and works pretty well. I've used it before on MDs, taking care not to let any drip under the shutter. Let it soak through the paper label and use a fingernail to scratch it off. It may take a couple tries but it works nicely.
Guest NRen2k5
Bah. Why buy new products when the WD40 you have sitting in your garage or on your workbench will do the job?
motaboy
I found that most stickers come off w/o leaving glue if you remove them slowly enough. If the sticker was on for a long time, it'll be harder. Then I just used just alittle %97 Alcohol on cutton or even TP, and it takes the glue right off - no fuss. jkrzok
Thanks for all of the replies. My main concern was if any solvent would damage the disc itself.
juepucta
Try lighter fluid (ronsonol) with a Q-tip. Maybe nail polish remover or DYE-O. Just be careful not to get any inside the casing. Also, some fluids might remove the sticky stuff but end up dulling the gloss of any clear (coloured or otherwise) plastics like jewel cases, mds et al.
