jtfogbank
The manual does not specify. But I noticed in the general characteristics listing that many Sony md recorders will allow manual record level by holding the REC button for a number of seconds and using the << and >> keys to set the level. This will be a gift for my father-in-law so I dont' have the unit in hand. He is an old-school taper and really wants manual control of recording level when recording with external mics. So can the AGC be defeated on the MZ-B100 or am I stuck with it? Thank you very kindly for the help!
KJ_Palmer
No, I'm afraid you only have AGC on the B100 (and newer B10). I just use mine for non-critical recording and as a portable player with speakers.
Shepherd
I'm no electronics genius, but if it's a simple mic, could you splice a headphone volume control into the mic cable? Just a thought...
KJ_Palmer
You could do, but that wouldn't stop the AGC from continually cutting in. It operates on both the mic and line inputs (on the B100/B10).
