jillako
Can anyone suggest a pair of reasonably priced speakers that work well with the Sharp SD-SG11? I've been using a pair of KLHs that really didn't do justice to the unit's sound and would like to upgrade. I use this system in my bedroom and have a budget of under $200; seeing that I can find a decent 5.1 channel receiver / speaker system for about $250 these days. doclloyd
I'm sure I don't have the greatest speakers for this system, but I picked up a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers for this same stereo - price was $50 or so. Having it in a bedroom sorta limits the size of speakers you need/want to get. If your budget is <= $200 for speakers alone, I'd have to imagine you could find a decent pair for your needs. Good luck.
jillako
Thanks, doclloyd. I didn't phrase this too well in my initial post but what I want is something that offers decent sound and also looks good with the SD-SG11 (size, color, finish etc..) Christopher
I wish I knew the answer to your question as well, because I employ a Sharp SD-NX10 and I'm still using the stock speakers. Our systems are extremely similiar, so whatever you end up buying [and hopefully being content with] I shall purchase as well. Take a look over at head-fi.org for me, eh? jillako
Kurisu, I haven't had a chance to register at head-fi - it does look to be useful. I was considering getting a pair of the JBL N24 II speakers ($80 for the pair at Amazon). It looked as though I might still need a subwoofer to get the low end of the sound. The subwoofer I am considering is the Yamaha YST-SW215 (about $125 street) - it seems to be small and effective. A local store here in the Bay Area has the Yamaha NS-6490 on clearance for $40 a pair - these seem to have great reviews and the build quality seems to be good - they lack the low end but then subwoofer should compensate. I will be checking them out tonight or tomorrow.
jillako
The SD-NX10 looks similar to the SD-SG11 but it seems to be of a lighter shade. I am primarily looking at black speakers with a finish that matches the SG11.
Christopher
I found a definite pair, at least for me - and probably for you. Check these out: Athena ASB1; here's a review: http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/athena_asb1.htm . They look to be winners with the low output of our systems. Here's the store I'll probably buy mine from: http://www.onecall.com/PID_15539.htm ..but I'll spend the next few days scouting for better deals beforehand. Additionally, after two hours of research it all kept pointing back to these, but I can find others if you're not content with the asthetics. jillako
Great find, Kurisu. The ASB1s look like a good fit. I will probably visit my local Best Buy to check them out first hand. My first choice was a pair of bookshelf speakers that reproduced good bass but I didn't find anything that was reasonably priced and so considered buying a subwoofer / small speakers combo. Will post again after checking these speakers out.
jillako
Alright, it took a while but I think I've finally found the best speakers for my SD-SG11. I just bought a pair of Infinity Primus 160 speakers and they sound great, feel solid and the look matches my SD-SG11. They do look just a bit too big but the sound from smaller speakers just didn't measure up. Best of all, they come with a 5 year warranty! Here's a link http://www.infinitysystems.com/homeaudio/p...od=PRIMUS160BKSI'll try to post a picture soon!
