Iknow that HI-MD players/recorders will play std discs, and that I can use a reformatted std disc to record on a HI-MD maching BUT - can I record (microphone) using a HI-MD machine, using a standard disc (not reformatted to 300) such that the disc can be played on a std player?

Thanks for the info -

Could I get around it in this manner? Record using a mike, put it on the computer, then use sonic stage to record back to the HI-MD machine in a format readable by std machines?

(Thinking of getting the NH-900, primarily to record myself on flute, but would like to be able to snail mail such recording to folks with std machines...)

Can I go ahead and request a reserve copy for me? I'd love to hear the results.

Remember, if you buy this unit DO NOT install the software that comes with the unit and install iceeedtea's build of Sonicstage 2, as that will give you the best functionality in this scenario. It's located in the NetMD forum..

p.s. Just in case there is any confusion, this is all you'd need to do: Record in PCM/Hi-SP, connect device to computer, upload via Sonicstage 2, and then burn those tracks to CD via Sonicstage 2. Simple, eh?

I'm not sure if this is possible, but you may also be able to record in a Hi-MD mode (preferably PCM, although the signal for a flute is so easily compressed it shouldn't matter if you go for a compressed form) and then upload to Sonic stage and then download onto another disc in a different format (one of the ones that the older units can play back)
