darryl_bartlett
Hi everybody. I have just started to get excited about the Hi-MD player technology. No matter what, I have decided to get the MZ-NH900 model - when they are finally available in the UK!!! I have a few very simple questions from a very simple person!!! The first is in November I am going on holiday to America for two weeks and would like to take my player with me. One thing I would like to do while I am in America is re-charge the supplied HH-10WM battery. Looking in the MZ-NH900 PDF manual, it states the following: Power requirements: 120V AC 60Hz (Models for USA, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan) ... ... 100-240V AC 50/60Hz (other models) By other models, I assume it is referring to the British (European) models. Does this mean that all I have to do to get the European cradle charger to work in American is to buy a British 3-pin plug to American 2-pin plug adapter? Am I correct in assuming that because the European power requirements is beetween 100-240V, it don't need to get any kind of voltage converter device? My second question is really regarding the supplied NH-10WM (1.2v 900mAh) battery. The manual claims the best case scenario battery life on playback to be in the region of about 10 hours. Is there a battery available which can hold a bigger charge? If so, would it be compatible with the MZ-NH900? I know there are now rechargeable AA NiMH batteries which are 2300mAh so my initial guess is there may be a higher capacity gum battery available to buy. Thirdly, I have something which is more of an observation as well as a question. Firstly, does the MZ-NH900 come with a carry case/belt clip? There is no mention of one in the manual. My friend has a net Minidisc and one of those armband straps - which would be perfect for me to use while exercising. The thing which annoys my friend about the armband strap is it doesn't fit if he puts on the extra AA battery case. Any thoughs/ideas/help on that score? Finally, to any Brits out there have you come across anywhere actually selling the Hi-MD media? Thanks in advance. Dazza.
Qwakrz
There is a higher capacity gum stick available. My NZ-R900 has a 1200mAh gumstick in it & it is the same as the type as on the MZ-NH900. This would give you about 1/4 more time to play with. Also if you purchased a multi battery charger with sliding arms to clamp the batteries in, you can sometimes get the gumstick to sit in it & charge. Its a NiMi after all so most battery chargers will charge it correctly I hope they release a bigger battery for the NH1, 350ish mAh is pritty poor for that player tbh
KJ_Palmer
Hi, OK I'll have a stab at some answers... 1. You will need a step up converter with 2-3 pin plug to use your adapter in the USA, as their house current is ~120V AC and ours is ~240 V AC. It might be less hassle to get an adaptor while over there if that's all you need it for. 2. You can get a NH-14WM which has higher capacity (1400mAh) and will be compatible with the NH900. 3. Not sure if a case is included, some ads on pre-order sites say one is, others not. I usually use a caselogic neoprene case which is stretchy enough to accomodate an external battery case... 4. Haven't seen any media around, not surprisingly since Hi-MD hasn't been released here yet (or even advertised as far as I know). I have noticed that Sony Centres seem to be clearing away their normal MD stuff, so maybe they'll be the best places to start...
bhangraman
The European models of the NH900/NH1 should ship with worldwide voltage transformers. Certainly the NH1's that we've received have worldwide voltage transformers. Hi-MD media won't be available for a while. Hopefully they'll sync the rollout of media with the UK launch, but it might arrive a bit later. Hopefully the shipping NH900 will come with NH-14WM, in which case a 30 hour battery life is projected. If not, you can buy the 14WM. It is likely that the cloth pouch (on the lines of the current discmen, only smaller of course) will be shipped in certain countries. The UK might get the PVC case with the belt clip. Either way it's a pouch or a soft case.
