Forum is really slow

Recommended Posts

Because it's running on something like a P3 500 IIRC.

Welcome to the world of a shared server! I told the webmaster I'd help him pay for a new server, as the one we're employing is ANCIENT [400mhz is all I need to say] - and he says nothing. This is the best we can do, and if it's too slow I recommend browsing this forum at night.

There might be a reason for the silence: A slow server limits the traffic possible. And that keeps the cost down to a limit.

So, the final solution would be to find a different hoster, one who offers a dedicated server with a high amount of traffic already included.

Ah, I love these threads! Makes my job relevant.

I've spent countless hours going over the "beef" of the forum and it's the best we can do. If you're an old timer with my administration, you'll know that the forum has made HUGE leaps with speed as of late and your words would've probably been much more scornful a few months back. I do also know that a new server is on the horizon, most likely later this summer or winter - but definitely this year. Can't wait!

No, it was all on my own. When I first joined as an administrator, I had no prior experience and I overmodded the forum with code and modifications that weren't very sound. It's taken me this long to troubleshoot and clean the inital mess I made. I have learned alot about phpbb, php, mysql and such since then and I can only note now that things will keep improving.
