rucal31
Does anybody know if its possible to adjust the recording level on-the-fly whilst recording from the mic input? Or is it still necessary to pause recording first? As far as I see, the manual doesn't answer this question... Has any MZ-NH900 user already tried this? Which Hi-MD recorders support on-the-fly recording level adjustment at all?
reefbeef
I second that motion. Anyone with an NH1 know if it's possible to adjust levels on the fly? I thought Sony was offering this, but the online manuals make it sound like you have to pause first...Is this the case? If so, SAVE US SHARP!!! Markr041
It is not necessary to pause. In manual mode, you can set the recording level while recording, turning the wheel on the 800 and the 900. The LCD read-out provides the level (e.g., 14/30) as you move the dial. You do have to step through menus each time you record (from stop) to go into manual mode. AGC is still the default.
dave_bass5
Also when you go back into change the rec level back to manual the level is the same as you last set it. Dave
Ipaqman
By default, the record mode is auto level, so even if you change it to manual, when you power off and on, it will default back to auto level. On the NH1, the jog dial controls the manual record level and you can adjust it on-the-fly. However, you can only choose manual rec level when paused such as in the beginning of your recording session. Once you are in manual rec mode, it stays that way until you push stop or choose auto rec mode.
AllanH
Yes it is possible. Get in Record/Pause mode. Enter Menu mode (hold Nav/Menu button for more than 2 seconds) Use jog wheel to go to Select Record settings (Rec Set) Enter Use jog wheel to select REC Volume Enter Use jog wheel to select Manual. Jog wheel can now be used to select record level manually. Now for the clever bit. Press Pause. Recording will now begin. Turning the jog wheeel will now increase/decrease the recording level as recording continues. Display changes automatically to indicate the level when you do this. mini
So it's as bad as it's always been, save for the jog wheel ... ? Still I'm curious. Where this explained in the 800 or 900 manuals? I've browsed the manuals and read the section that explains the two record sensitivity level settings, but I saw nothing about setting the record level on the fly. Don't mean to sound negative, but I sure don't want to dig through menu settings and "Hold the Nav/Menu button" for two seconds. I want to start recording immediately and, if necessary, set the levels via front panel buttons -- like on a Sharp, which is probably what I'll buy. Unfortunately the Sharps have he nasty problem of dropping out as you cross a magic record level, like 17. Do the Sony HIMDs have this problem? AllanH
As bad as its always been? No - its better than on my R37 which doesn't allow manual level control on the fly. Sharp? they don't do HiMD yet. Dropouts as the recording level increases? - haven't noticed any so far.
jadeclaw
Have the NH700, which is a NH800 without radio-remote and it has no drop-outs when adjusting the rec-level.
