Aznsilvrboy
How long do you expect before Sony releases a Hi-MD model that will be more high-end than the NH1 or rather a newer MD technology(Old MD-->Hi-MD-->???) I know I'd be angry if I bought the NH1 right now and like 6 months later, another model comes out and is better than the NH1.(i know this part doesnt really matter for others who purchased lower-end models of Hi-MD) or now that you bought Hi-MD and 6 months later a newer and improved type of MD units are released. Ppk3000
It's hard to tell if and when new models will be released. It really depends how quickly and how much of the market adapts to the newer Hi-MD technology... and by market I mean more of the asian areas as the demand there is much greater than anywhere else. As for the MD technology itself, I don't think any new overhaul MD technology will be available in the next 12 months. Sony would only compete with themselves that way and possibly render their Hi-MD line obsolete.
Spare Tire
You mean old-md---->mdlp----->netmd----->hi-md takes more than six months between those steps. Only thing that's coming out will be a second generation of Hi-MD with technically the same functionnalities but refined. I really look forward to them refining that damn battery life they battered ( ) in the first gen Hi-MD compared to the older MDs. MZ-1... an hour and fifteen minutes battery life! omg, what the hell is that good for? xP
Christopher
If I'm not mistaken, it took longer to recharge the battery than it's actual lifespan.
Rumz
Remember though when old MD was new, their battery life was even MORE horrid than Hi-MD... MZ-1... an hour and fifteen minutes battery life! omg, what the hell is that good for? xPI know exactly what you mean! We've been spoiled by the great battery life achieved with MD and MDLP. When I got my R90 I was tickled with the battery life, it was still better than my CDp. Current Hi-MD units have similar battery life but expectations are just so much higher now. dex Otaku
You know.. I can't recall where I read it, but there was a whitepaper out there somewhere with speculation on Sony's timetable for releasing Hi-MD, Hi-MD2 [or whatever it will be] and so on. Hi-MD has already been stated by some Sony execs as being the mid-step solution; it has backward compatibility with MD, and most of the limits of the format are actually determined by exactly that factor. The next step will be non-backward compatible, much higher capacity [probably in the range of 2.5-4.7GB], and likely with better features [24-bit linear recording? PLEASE? .. Yeah, right]. Like I said, I can't remember where I read this, but the speculated timetable suggested something like 2-2.5 years before the next gen Hi-MD comes out. I believe the thinking was that Sony would seriously push Hi-MD as the first step up, phasing out MD as much as possible.
