Spangley Tree
Right, just got a MZNH600. Have no experience with SonicStage but it seems like it wants to take over your computer. Also, am amazed with with the amount of faff required to get an mp3 uploaded, but still I was coping until I went to add a new file to my already created Hi-MD. Now I can't read the disk at all. SonicStage says it's been 'initialized by other than SonicStage' so I need to format it to get it to work. After I've uploaded files, I've removed them from My Library as I don't want the Atrac files aswell as the mp3s in another location. Basically, refusing to use SonicStage for anything other than uploading. Having deleted the files from My Library have I deleted 'evidence' or something needed to recognise the disk? I don't really understand how it all works. So what's going on? Can anyone help me out? I've checked the protect tab btw. Many thanks for anyone kind enough to reply. Is there anything else to use other than SonicStage? It seems like I'm forced to do what Sony wants me to do. I wasn't aware of this when I bought it. Sorry for the rant. You've probably heard it all before!
mutant1345
okay...when you import a file to sonic stage it makes it an atrac file but not exactly a copy its more like a shortcut to the mp3 than a copy i think and when you delete the source imorted file you delete what you wanna copy to yer MD so dont worry too much about having two files although thats how it apears the only time it becomes and omg file is when you save it using SS backup tool...as for other preograms i think real player works for recording net md type discs but im not sure about hi md ....hope that helped and anyone who sees a mistake ive made please correct me.... You've probably heard it all before!Turns out data corruption occurs if you DO follow what the Windows prompt says and try to shut down the MD in WIndows - which is what I think you did. The correct procedure to unplug: 1. push stop button on MD - DISC SAFE TO EJECT appears on display 2. Unplug usb 3. Ignore warning messages is any

Qwakrz
Have you updated the Data access components for windows XP? If you are not upto date with all the patches then the answer is no goto http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en and install the update, it may also be worth updating the Jet datbase engine http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en. This updates the database handling routines in XP to the current version (as needed by SS)
Meryl Arbing
I have to say that I didn't like how SonicStage saved copies of my audio files on my HD and, even though I have more than 200Gb free, it was still taking up too much space. So, I don't bother with SS anymore. I'm using SimpleBurner now almost exclusively and that has led me to start burning tracks onto CDR prior to transfer to MD. The CDR can be stored away as an archive and I don't have to worry about cluttering up my HD with redundant tracks that I dare not delete. I don't use MP3 but I am currently involved in converting my extensive vinyl collection. Recording from the turntable to the computer as a WAV; cleaning up the audio and separating the tracks; I burn the resulting tracks to CD (as an archive) and then quickly to MD with SimpleBurner. I wonder if you could do the same thing with MP3 files => CD => SimpleBurner => MD.
Qwakrz
I use SS and allow it to save files simply because I can never find the CD I need (Its always hidden under paperwork etc). SS has been told to save all its files onto a seperate drive I have (150GB space) and all my CD's are being ripped in Hi-SP, Hi-LP & SP2 formats (indexed as H, M & L at the start of the folder name) because SS cant convert from Hi-SP to Hi-LP on the fly. 300 CD's takes some ripping (249 to go) For MP3's and simple burner do this MP3 > Nero (use image recorder to make an image) > Daemon tools (to mount the image as a drive) > SimpleBurner > MD
StarCapt
I hope I can get some help here. I recently purchased the Sony MZ-NH900. I can't get SonicStage to accept uploads from the recorder. It posts message: "This disk initialized by program other than SonicStage" etc. I have done the initialization by SonicStage; no change. I've uninstalled and re-installed SonicStage: no change. I've reformatted the mini-disc; no change. I contacted Sony Product Support and got an answer that I couldn't understand -- it certainly didn't include any step-by-step procedure to correct the situation. I've uninstalled SonicStage 2.0 and installed 2.1; no change. I followed the suggestion in this forum to download and install two Windows XP patches - the "JetDrive" and the other; no change. Since the Sony product is now useless to me for the purposes for which I bought it, I'm on the point of returning it but I post here as a last ditch effort. Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. Spangley Tree
I'm having the same problem as you, StarCapt. It means everytime I want to add a track to a already created MD I have to initialize it and hence start from scratch. I will try the method above to see if data corruption is causing it. Thanks for suggesting that. I'm using Win98SE but I'm sure I'm up together with Windows Updates.
Christopher
Welcome Star. If you uninstalled and reinstalled via the directions in the NetMD faq [registry edits and all] you will not have any further problems.
StarCapt
I very much appreciate the prompt reply from an admin. Sorry if I seem to be dense, but I've examined the entire "Net MD Topics" FAQ and I can't find a reference to reinstalling SonicStage. (I find "What NetMD software packages are there?" with a reference to "SonicStage"; it's an article on Version 1.5 and makes no reference to re-installation.) If you'll point me to the exact page, I will certainly be grateful. I want to make this rig work. SC

StarCapt
Thank you ... THANK YOU!! From being in computer hell for days I have, within a few hours, used the SonicStage re-installation info to which you pointed me to get the software working properly again. (For some reason, it took me two full passes through the procedure to succeed, but "All's Well That Ends Well.") I also sucessfully followed dex's recommended procedure to transfer files recorded by mike on the Sony MZ-NH900 to my computer via Total Recorder and thence to Audacity in .wav format. I'm producing and directing a series of radio dramas for KCSB-FM (91.9), the radio station of the University of California at Santa Barbara. I recently bought the Sony to record interviews in my own home with my actors to be able to include these interviews with the recorded performances of the plays we do. I desperately wanted to be able to get in one additional interview for editing and inclusion in next week's show and now I can do it! If you want to listen, the Santa Barbara Theatre of the Air broadcasts each Tuesday evening from 6-7 pm, PDT at www.kcsb.org/webcast/ SC
