I have the mz-r 900 and the only thing that I don´t like about is the low output on the headphones. I am thinking about switching over to the nh1, but don´t know if its the same low volume output.... mutant1345 Posted September 2, 2004 Report Share Posted September 2, 2004 i dont have an nh1 but i hear the digital amp makes a differance with loudness and bass some say it sounds good and some say its a bit annoying but if you have a problem with the loudness try smaller headphones because its possible that the output cant power yer phones but if yer usiing small ones as it is then i would think the nh1 would be alot better... If you live somewhere in Europe, the European model of the NH900 has a nerfed headphone output (3mW+3mW as opposed to 5mW+5mW). However, the NH1 has 5mW amp regardless of region. Also, you should try 'phones with a lower impedance (8 or 16 ohms). If you are using higher impeding 'phones (24 or 32 ohms) it will reduce your unit's overall volume. boogiedown Posted September 2, 2004 Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2004 Thanks aeriyn! :smile: Well actually I live in Germany, so thats probably the reason why my output is "castrated" :laugh: I have the Koss Porta Pro (which in my eyes are simply the best portable Headphones on the market) I also have a pair of Sony VDJ 700 (which are top notch for mixing, but if I hook them up to my MD the volume of the sound of course goes down.) So, Porta Pro are the phones for me! (The sony earplugs that came with the mz-r 900 had a ridiculously bad sound!) I just don´t like the fact that I sometimes here more of the traffic outside, than my music on the inside... Actually, my first MD was a Sharp 702, and it had enough volume to be pumped up! I was also thinking on buying an iPod, cause a friend of mine has one and that has enough output power to be loud enough. (again using my Koss Porta Pro´s) But because I dj and also like recording my sets, I can´t get around using an MD... I can hook up the 110-ohm Shure E5 up to the 1.5mw portables and still (metaphorically speaking) blow my eardrums out. I'm surprised that on your equipment the V700 volume drops in comparison to the Portapro... the Portapros have lower efficiency and a higher impedance compared to the 700. I have a set of sony in ear headphones (Not the ones it came with, they are crap) & I usually listen to the volume at 5 when its quiet (reading a book at night) or 10 when its slightly noisey. My nh1 seems quite loud enough ( as compares with my mz-n1 ) On the 1-30 volume scale I use about 10/12 in a quiet room and approx 16/18 on noisier trains etc. I tried about 25 ish and it was too loud!! ( that's using sony in ear ex71's. ( PS my nh1 was bought in uk and is 5mw/made in japan model) PPS very pleased with it so far - excellent build etc only slight prob seems to be Sonic Stage locking up every so often and forcing me to reboot my computer. 2cents Posted September 5, 2004 Report Share Posted September 5, 2004 also have n1 . seems 2 have enuf power 4 me. but if u need 2 block out the outside noise , the ex71 r pretty good, but r a bit muddy. and the e888 sound fabulous I listen at half volume most times , but can hear outside noise more with them, cuz they don't seal as well as the ex71...not sure if that helps u or not...
