marvin
Hi, I'm considering to buy a Net/Hi-MD player. I have many mp3 files on my computer downloaded from the net. I have seen several topics about copyright protection but cant figure out how exactly it works. If this is already discussed please forgive me. 1) Will I be able to record my mp3 files (downloaded from the net), to my MD recorder, via USB using sonicstage (or whatever else)? 2) If so, how many times can I do that? 3) And in which modes can I record? (SP, LP2, LP4) thanx in advance marvin
jadeclaw
1): Well, you will use SonicStage for that. 2): Checkout limit is now set to unlimited since SS2.0, so you can download as often as you want. 3): If you take a NetMD unit, it is LP2 & LP4. For SP, you have to record off the Soundcard. If the soundcard is a good one with optical digital out, recording real time to SP gives the highest quality. If you take a Hi-MD unit, things change a bit. In addition to LP2 & LP4, you can also use Hi-SP and Hi-LP. Hi-SP is as good as the old SP, Hi-LP is a bit better than LP4. I strongly suggest to get a Hi-MD unit, as it gives you 140 minutes in SP-quality on a 80 minute disc, plus being able to use the new 1GB discs. (7h 55min in Hi-SP) My recommendation: All Hi-MD recorders except the NH600. Second recommendation: Use SonicStage 2.1 : http://www.connect.com/download.html (unless you are living in Europe and are keen to use the online musicstore)
Bananatree
You say "Downloaded off the 'net" Does this mean you downloaded them from legal music sites? Or did you download them from a P2P program? Well I guess since they are Mp3 you should not have a problem, but I have known a Mp3 to not transfer in sonicstage due to copyright problems. Well I guess since they are Mp3 you should not have a problem, but I have known a Mp3 to not transfer in sonicstage due to copyright problems. Most of the time that SonicStage has given me copyright errors with MP3 the errors were actually due to the fact that the MPEG header did not start at 0 bytes rather than the fact that they were actually protected files (which they were not). Decoding to .wav always fixed this and enabled me to encode the tracks into ATRAC.
