wayne_cramp
I'm pretty sure that this topic may have been covered already, but I could not find a thread relating to it. Here's my problem: I purchased a Net MD MZ-NE410 off of Ebay. The player works fantastic, and it's probably the one piece of electronics that I truly enjoy on many levels. I went the Net MD route because of the advantages I feel it has over a standard Flash memory MP3 player. I got the unit in June, and I loaded the Sonic Stage ver. 1.5 software. Installation went smoothly, then I was prompted to upgrade to 2.1 since I was running Windows XP. I upgraded the software and set about converting my entire jazz CD collection into a series of Mix discs to listen to while cycling. I recorded 20 to 25 minidiscs, and occasionally I got a major error message from XP and had to shut down. Microsoft, through their error reporting, said it was a "USB Driver Error" that had caused it. I figured it was not a terribly serious issue, but now I wish I had. My PC completely crashed, could not reload windows, and had to be sent to DELL to get it fixed. Anyway, I got my PC back, and yesterday I figured I would try and reload Sonic Stage and load only specific parts. I was wrong. Within an hour I started to get "blue screens of death", so I completely removed the software once again. Of course, now the problem is gone, so I definetely know it is the Net MD software causing the situation. Does anyone have any hints or fixes I can try? If I can't get it to work on my PC I guess I'll have to break down and buy a MiniDisc deck and run it through my home stereo system, but that will be a last resort. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.
jadeclaw
Well, two possible reasons: 1) Other USB devices are getting in the way here, Jenoptik card drive and camera software and PDA synchronizer software had been reported in creating problems. Unplugging any other USB-devices and then trying again seems to be the best thing + terminating any software providing automatic synchronizing functions. 2) It's a DELL. And you're in DELL-Hell. For anybody else interested in buying a new PC: Avoid DELL, Compaq, HP and Gateway like the plague. Shop-assembled with standardized components is the way to go. wayne_cramp
Yeah, and I was so snowed by all the DELL advertsisng when I bought this thing. Never again. I did uninstall every USB device that I could (leaving only my wireless mouse/keyboard combo installed) and I still got the "blue screen of death) I did order the 2.1 version from Sony and I hope that helps. Syrius
My Gateway laptop is pretty decent, and worked just fine with SS 2.1 and a NetMD unit when I tried. Then again, I keep it in top shape and use two USB devices at maximum at the time. Have you tried using the Nero Imagedrive trick? It sure takes a bit longer but it's way cleaner, and IMHO, safer.
