Tiesto
Here in my Country, there's an online auction selling the MZ-N1 for about US$600!!... I mean wtf!! This guy is a dreamer, no MD user not even a casual buyer wouldn't be willing of paying that fre@#$% price (that's how the sellers keep unpopular this format )... anyway, this fellow has the MZ-N10 US$100 cheaper, I know that over here one has to pay some taxes due to importations plus the seller profit expectations, but those prices are ridiculous :wacky: I asked him why the N10 is cheaper than the N1 if both units are brand new (at least that's what he states), here is his answer about the MZ-N1: "The lower the number the finer the device, it remains at the top of the Sony's catalogs, although the N10 is a newer and improved model it continues being under the N1 at the Sony's catalog. This is as the 610, 810 and 910 models have improved features, radio and other stuffs that the N1 or N10 dont, but this doesnt mean that those are above the N1 neither of the N10."Piece of work, huh? :rasp:
Bananatree
Bravo to this guy. He clearly does not realize the 1 stands for the 1st NetMD model and the 10 stands for the 10th anniversary.
aeriyn
The N1 is actually pretty awful. The infamous "blankdisc" and recording problems, of course, as well as poor build quality and poor ergonomics... ... the last good MD unit Sony made was the R900. Tiesto
I replied to his answer, I wrote him that I havent seen any catalog where the N1 was considered better than the N10, I will try to do a literal translation, so here is the new answer: “Like I said, the N10 is a newer model therefore it has improvements that regarding to technical specifications it can surpass to the N1 but never at the used technology although it gets close, if you have access to the catalog of two years ago you will note that the N1 is the top of the Minidisc line, followed by the N10 where the corresponding references are: MZ-N1 y MZ-N10, the catalog of this year you will note again that the N1 continues being at the top of the Hi-MD series with the MZ-NH1.” I really like this guy but I hope you can understand what he's trying to explain because I dont :wacky:
The Rule
Meh, i love my N10...wouldnt trade it for thw world. My 610 was great too untill i dropped it one too many times and it got a bunch of chunks taken out of it. =P
cthulu
I got mine for £28 on eBay with 16 Minidiscs and 2 spare NiMH cells. I love MD players, and when I can afford it I will switch to a Hi-MD capable of MP3 playback. I could have bought a 1GB mp4/mp3 Chinese iPod nano replica for £45 but they are so small I WOULD break it, trust me and they can't record.... So until I earn my fortune its plain old MD for me.[edit]Just noticed this post is >18 months old, I found it when I was searching for "MZ-N1", please forgive me admins, lol Edited April 9, 2006 by cthulu
Ishiyoshi
Welcome to MDCF, cthulu! Thanks for sharing your experience. The N1 is indeed a classic unit despite its optical block issue. I hope your unit will continue to run as it should till you adopt a Hi-MD unit. Regardless, enjoy your stay here with us. thread will be locked shortly since it's old.
