  1. While we're on the subject, in many ways the first gen Hi-MDs seemed the most reliable. Especially the NH700. The NH600 is close but the jog wheel sometimes gets unreliable.
  2. I really like the sound from the 2nd Gen (RH10,RH910) and apparently this may be because it's analog (!?). The problem with the RH1 is that it's very clear but the sound enhancement may have helped to fry my ears. Hence the EC's insistence on volume capping many are anxious to remove. The player-only models EH930, EH50, EH70 are all good too.
  3. Great! But where is it? There's no link (that I could see). The links that WERE there was broken ("User has removed their video'"). Sorry for any inconvenience... it's definitely nice to know you are still with us.
  4. WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? Cleaned up as the latest videos seem to be "removed" and wondering if Octave had someone steal his account........
  5. The closest you get is the LAM-X1 which has PC->MD transfer for both HiMD and NetMD. Jim had one apart and said it was very cheaply constructed. I would assume that you can get USB->PC transfer for HiMD provided the tracks were not locked to a PC with encryption already.
  6. The only out is from the CD. So if you hoping for MD out, tant pis. However, hooking up any Hi-MD portable (by USB) to a PC achieves this. AFAIK there does not exist a HiMD unit with digital out.
  7. I'm a bit puzzled why the N7 is apparently a lot smaller than the B7 with identical features. You bought this?

    Screen issue

Just remember: a. any smudge you make on the white screen back is permanent b. the inverter generates 3000V or so Good luck!

    Laurel/Yanny

Haha I think it's a complete hoax. Today whenever they speed it up it changes from Yanny to Laurel, rather than vice-versa. Yesterday it was the reverse. That tells me someone is playing games with us.
  10. The Sonic Stage license for Gracenote is expired/busted/oversubscribed. We don't know what to do about it. If you have the time to make a complaint to Gracenote that would be much appreciated by all here.

    Screen issue

Nothing special about VAIO here. You are better off going to a PC forum, as we don't deal much with these issues here - not the same expertise as MD and other music gear. However, probably the 3kV inverter is dead. For most people this means taking the laptop to an authorised service agent and they swap the screen. But really it's likely the inverter board you have to replace. Not a job for the faint of heart

    Laurel/Yanny

Hmmm if you have to hear high frequencies to get "Yanny" then half the world is pitch-deaf
  13. ... and consequently a bit overpriced. Did you check Yahoo Jp?
  14. Why? The item I looked at was on eBay with willingness to ship worldwide.
  15. They double the data rate intermally for the copy, I believe. But it can only be transmitted internally. Not possible with the standard 44.1 sampling frequency of optical (TOSlink) transmission.
  16. I just played the video. You only need one .inf file (if 32 bits then NETMD052.inf, if 64 bits then NETMD760.inf) There may be an issue with UNinstalling some other inf files depending on what the installer did. Most importantly, you have to disable driver signature enforcement (temporarily) in Windows. This can be done by rebooting in a special way (as it is hard to hit f8 at the right time during Windows 10 boot sequence). It's well documented here.
  17. It's going to wait the prescribed number of seconds before dividing the track, I think. If the signal hasn't dropped by the time you press start on the media player then you will get two tracks merged into one. Once the signal drops then you get a track mark. It's at the best of times an iffy process. I think some of the folks here have worked out a special add on to Foobar2000 to play two seconds of silence at the end of each track to accomplish what you want.
  18. Clarification: are you getting two tracks joined up on the MD? Or are you getting only half the music?
  19. 20lbs is getting up there, but I there exist heavier (probably the 555ES takes the cake at 15.3kg but I have not done an exhaustive check). BTW there is a choice of carriers - so far I always used SAL, if I recall. Fed Ex or UPS will likely be expensive, but DHL sometimes has a cheaper international rate (I speak generally, nothing to do with Buyee).
  20. It's for making prerecorded (CD) disks. Probably the 4th (impossible) combination.
  21. That's an exceptionally high international shipping fee but isn't that because you bought a very heavy deck? The other fees from Buyee are relatively insignificant based on your given numbers.
  22. Agreed - ATRAC only processes data on and off disk.
  23. LOL is that ever a candidate for the museum of unwanted computer software?
  24. For starters, which one are you using? I presume the RM-MC40ELK..... I'm not sure if it does EVERYTHING, but the common RM-MC35ELK (and probably the RM-MC38ELK) seems to do the basics, I just tested it. There's a brand new in box here. Better be quick though, it's only on a few minutes. No bids, so the guy might relist it.
