OK so I dropeed the idea of getting a new S630 series player because I got a great deal on the 8GB A820 model with bluetooth headphones. I was wondering what the best case for this is. I want a clear platic one. I found this one on ebay but the main buttons (play-pause) don't seem to be covered... is that right? Seems like a good way for dirt to get in! Are there any other options?

Hi guys. I'm hunting around to see if there's a media manager compatible with my NWZ-A818. - if I Drag & Drop, the 'year' info gets lost from the tracks and there's no way to regulate the bitrate of the transferred player - if I use WMP, the album art (sometimes) gets lost, and I either have no control over bitrate or, set a bitrate and have WMP convert my music into *.wma - the Sony Media Manager is clunky, slow and buggy - not good! So is there anything out there that will convert my music into 128kbps mp3, and which will retain all tags an album art...? Thanks!

I'm in the UK. Volume does go up to 30 but there is no difference in volume at 20 and 30. I'll try resetting the settings to see if that makes any difference... any suggestions for decent quality in ear headphones that don't cost the earth? I might use a different pair for the train...

its £210 at Play.com as well.... to be fair, the iPod touch 16gb is about £250, and the sony clearly pees all over it. As for the price discrepancy between USA and here, wotcha gonna do?!

I just tried that, and on mine it says: Other SPSET EU [ SPS: OFF] So I'm guessing that means the volume level is not blocked...? But then why can't I turn it up past 20, AVLS is off, any other reasons?

just wondering if anyone's cracked this yet? I'm in the UK and there's no difference in volume between 20 and 30 and 20 isn't nearly enough if I'm in a loud place... Thanks

aaaaargh, i'm assuming its not coming to the UK because of Sony double standards.... Can you imagine the uproar that'd be caused if Apple brought out an ipod only in the US...?!

thatks, that's very helpful! i ordered the plastic one, for the same reason that it protects the screen and you can still see the mp3 player. the 8gb is only £75 now cus of the new ones coming out! bargainous!

thanks! my only concern was that the warranty runs out in may and if they have it another month, there's not much warrenty left by the time it gets back.... just sounds like a delaying tactic to make sure i'm left with a non-functional player out of warranty

lol wasn't exactly gonna flog it on ebay! there's a shop local to me that buys electricals, esp ones with faults (that they deem fixable). could get £40-£50 out of it and contribute it towards a new mp3 player (NWZ-A818 for £99 on amazon maybe?!) it's just that i'd feel like i was losing out to get less than half what i paid for it only 7 months after i bought it...

Hi guys! My NW-S706 had some problems with the earphones a couple of months ago, it got sent back to be repaired but now that I've had it back for a few weeks, I'm having more difficulties with it. Basically the rocker for skipping/forwarding/rewinding tracks intermittently stop working or bizarrely works in the opposite way (i.e. it push it up and it rewinds/skips back or it doesn't work at all...). I've rung the retailer as its still under warranty but they just want to take it back in for repair. I'm hesitant as they had for over a month last time and I don't exactly want that to happen again... Am I within my rights to request a refund or exchange? Or am I just better off selling it now and buying another MP3 player?

well i got it back from repair today, and it seems fixed.... let's see how long it lasts! there's 2 rather large dents on the back of the player though, i'm guessing that's where they opened it...

i'm going to wait and see what happens when I get this one back... if i have a problem with it again, i will do exactly that, i think i'd 'upgrade' to an a818. but, two problems: firstly, my first unit was ffrom play.com and current one from empire direct so "it's happened before" might not wash with them. secondly, they don't stock the player i want to replace it with!!! i'll see when i get it back and will keep u updated!

mine is too but I don't want them to fix it only for it to break again later, when i'm out of warranty. that'd leave me with nothing...

i bought it from play.com first time around. when it broke down i rang them, and as they didn't have any in stock to replace it with, they gave me refund and took back the faulty player. i then bought the same player from empire direct for about the same price... i guess i'll see what happens with this repair and take it from there. thanks for the replies tho!

yeah that's true, but i was wondering what are the chances of getting a new one or them being able to fix this one. basically this is the 2nd nws706 i've had because of exactly the same fault before... tbh right now i just want a different model simply becuase i think the extra terminal in the earphones makes it a weak point and what i dont want is it to break after 12 months and me be left without anything...

ok quick question..... the problem i had worsened and the think the actual headphone port on the player was damaged. It's been sent for repair, what are the chances of them being able to fix it?

my first 706's left earphone went completely about 5 months after i'd had it so i got it replaced. now i've had my 2nd 706 for about 5 months and i get a crackling sound if i move. I think it's something to do with the extension cord because the problems resolves if i plug the earphones directly into the player... the retailer i got it from is tyring to get me some new earphones......... let's see what happens!

£10 is about 23AUD... so a rip off basically! i've 'borrowed' some buds from my brother's SE earphones and bought 3 pairs of my size earbuds (rather than 3 pairs of different sizes) from ebay for about £3... assuming they fit, i'm just about satisfied thanks for the help guys!!!
