Hi I bought not working JA555ES as a parts donor for JA555ES and JA333ES. It even didn't power up. Broken shaft of AMS encoder. Inside I noiticed some flat wires unpluged. Missing loading belt and lever (lock) assy X-4949-790-1 (not available anymore). But I gave it a try. After pluging all wires it powers up and display shines as new one. I managed to create lever lock. First I wanted to print it 3D but with no luck so I did it manually and it works. Next I tried to repair broken encoder. I bought one encoder from Alps and second from Bourns but the old was from Panasonic ;-( . Anyway I put Bourns encoder because it has longer shaft and works smooth and can stand more cycles. The only drawback is that it rotates in different direction than original but does its job. Maybe anyone knows what Pansonic encoder should I get or have spare one. After assembling it turned out that this MDS-JA555ES has played only for 131 hours and recorded for 64 hours so seems pretty new one.

Thx for replies. Today it works fine. Could be another flat wire problem. I check it if I have more free time.

Hi Recently I got MDS-JA555ES. Previous owner didn't care much about it so it visible on the front panel but also didn't use it. Total play time is about 220 hours and only 3 hours for recording. Today I noticed strange thing. Power is on, display is working, seems it is playing but every button is inactive. I can't even switch it off or eject minidisc. I had to remove plug from mains. I checked all easily accesible connections. Could it be temperature and humidity problem? It is so hot.

I got second JA333ES. (not working) with intent as a parts donor for the first one unit. When I open a box it looked like new so I tried to repair. There were two problems first one easy power cord. Second seemed much more complicated. It was broken lever (part nr 217). I tried to connect broken parts using glue and after third attempt with the help my old credit card it worked. I am not sure for how long will it last so if anyone have such spare part and could sell it .would be nice. Same part is in JA20ES and JA555ES. sony_MDS-JA333ES_service_manual p77.pdf

On PC link compability chart I didn't notice MDS-S9. It has PC socket, what interface does it need? mabye PCLK-MN10.
-
M-crew needs PCLK-MN10 so it is impossible. In such situation it will be working as an separate application. If you have music files on your PC you can edit them using M-Crew but no connection to Net-MD equipment.
-
I didn't know that while using M-crew it is possible to paste all songs titles in one move. Maybe SS.4.3 has the same abilities I didn't check.
-
I have spare XP license so I will try Virtual Box. Driver for PCLK-MN10 was installed. without any problems. M-Crew works fine on Virtual box with Windows XP 32 bit..
-
At this moment (since yesterday ;-) ) for M-crew I use an old computer with Vista OS and it works fine, seems to me M-crew is much better than SS4.3. Maybe I will set up another system for my current PC it will be more comfortable. . .

The biggest issues are new OS 64 bit. Yesterday all evening I tried to start MDS-PC3 and M-crew on Windows 10 PRO 64 bit but with no luck.
-
I mean compability mode only for SS4.3 not for Windows.

Japan version of JA333ES has connection to PCLK-MN10 kit while other version has A1 Control socket. Display is also different.

I have Onkyo amplituner TX-8150, Sony MDS-JA333ES, Sony MDS JB-980QS, and 5 cd changer Sony CDP-CE505. I use speakers Heco Music Style 900, Tonsil Altus 110 and recently bought subwofer Heco New Phalanx 302a. In few days I expect to get Sony MDS-PC3 and another JA333ES (for parts).

Hi I am looking for another minidisc stand, same as in the photo. I could buy or exchange for another mindisc stand for 104 mds (behind in the photo)

Two days ago my SS4.3 stopped working without no reason ( maybe windows update). I use Windows 10 PRO 64 bit. I did new installation over existing. Than set compability mode to Windows 98/Windows Me and set administrator privileges and it helped.

I noticed PC link compability chart. http://minidisc.org/sony_pclk_compatability_chart.htm It states that it is possible to connect JA333ES to PC using PCLK-MN10. According to PCLK-MN10 manual I think it is impossible. Am I right?

Funny thing to save that piece of electronic art all I needed was flat wire for about 3$ and your priceless help.
-
Good news. It works, it does!!!. It wouldn't be possible without your help. Thank you very much!!!.
-
I expect to get it tomorrow so it explain if it is display or wire problem.
-
I've just found and ordered two pieces, just in case. Close area to me so I hope to get it next week. 275 mm wouldn't be too long? 125 mm is enough.
-
I need 25 lines (or at least 24 lines ) pitch is 1 mm.
-
I think left wire (topmost) is line number 25 and is NC (not connected?). Line 24 and line 25 on photo looks like damaged. I will look for new flat wire.
-
I don't think that all lines in flat wire are broken because it also supplies LED on buttons and they are on. Maybe only one is broken just for the display. After some investigation i noticed that LED on REC button it is not working, so you are probably right flat wire could be the reason.

Connector number is CN807. It goes to FL board. Wire number on the picture is 68 sony_MDS-JA333ES_service_manual p79.pdf
