MediaMonkey does look good - thanks - but... what lossless is recommended for 'best' quality playback (if i'm starting with WAV files)? I don't see much on offer in MM??

OK, so i picked up an NWZ-A829. Now, SonicStage is/was a piece o'**** - but at least i'd got used to it - had all my playlists set up etc. Now this 829 isn't even recognised by SS! And now Sony supply 'Media Manager for Walkman' - good grief - you wouldn't believe Sony would offer up an even worse piece of trash than SS, but here it is! And WMP doesn't seem to offer any meaningful transfer options... So, I'm at a loss and would certainly value some advice.... I wanna transfer my playlists using the best recommended lossless for the best music quality i can get. I store all my music is WAV format - so 'I should' be able to achieve this - some way. any comments and suggestions would be MUCH APPRECIATED!

it's a pretty lousy review that says 'it remains to be seen if it'll work with iTunes...' - i thought that's the kinda info reviews reveal 'if' it does work with iTunes it'll be a real result - iPod's are..., well, we all know what they are - but iTunes is a good bit 'o kit....

i had the 1000 for about a year or so and just picked up the 808 last week. I've got a few questions about it i'm trying to resolve (see http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4022 for one that will be relevant to you), but all in all the 808 is a significant improvement over the 1000. First thing, it's a lot smaller and lighter. The colour menu is great and works in even v.bright light. The menu whilst not significantly changed from the 1000, operates a lot faster - navigation is pretty much instant. On/Off is instant too, unless it's been powered down over night say and then it takes a second or two, but still faster than the 1000. Most significantly is the music quality. The 808 has a number of new preference setting but certainly, the music quality playback is noticeably better and definitely the best i've personally come across. No vol. limit as pointed out (or at least it's set to off as standard). Now, personally, i bought it specifically for music. And it's just as well because at 8GBs it's already full. Unless you're willing to put up with poor quality music and video playback, i think at only 8BGs, it's too small a capacity for a video player. I have a 30GB vid. iPod and that seems a minimum if you want something for video. Plus, i've read many comments - and from the way that SS handles things i can see it's likely - that even getting vid. content on to it is a great hassle. With the iPod it's as easy as loading music tracks. So with the exception of this and the issue in the tread above, i would recommend the 808 over the 1000 unreservedly... as seen in Japan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC8GgmTHImc

Interesting - you're spot on! Both players say tracks are ATRAC 352kbps'secured'. This throws up further questions, but sticking with the one at hand, I still don't see why, if both players are in fact converting WAV files to ATRAC at the same bit rate, why the A1000 takes around 5GBs to store all my music, and the A808 doesn't have enought space with 8GBs?!

i don't follow you - i thought WAV files were the largest files given they are uncompressed. So if SS is starting with uncompressed files - larger than any others - even if it does convert them to someth. else to put on to the 808 - can this really account for over 3GBs of extra space??!! in fact you're suggesting that SS makes the files considerably bigger to transfer them...

i import everything as WAV files and transfer 'as is'. Transfer setting were not changed between units.

juli - in the end i had about 120meg left and did add a little something to that and saw the available go down - but i'll try adding a large playlist and see if it'll take it though... yes, i noticed the 7.5 'usable cap.' - the 1200 showed '5.5' - but you get my point, either way if i start with 6 and have 1 left, if i start with 8 i should have 3 left thanks for the feedback...

i would have to agree - i don't go above 15 in central London and it still sounds loud! i use Shure SE530's and they're exceptional - you should get some anyway... as for amps, check these out: http://www.headphone.com/products/headphon...tal-airhead.php but, don't use it with the player and headphones (i should say 'earphones') - you'll deffen yourself!!

you think you've got troubles, i call Sony US support to get some service it's THAT bad here in EU!!!!

i picked up an 808 8GB last week - i was using an A1000 6GB. with all my playlists on the A1000, i had 1.1GBs of free space remaining. But, when i tried to transfer exactly the same playlists on to the 808 with 8GBs, i ran out of space with 3 playlists to go!! can anyone explain what's going on here? Also, when i realised the situation, i deleted a large playlist from the player (from within SS when the player was connected) and whilst the playlist appeared deleted, and is not visibly available on the player anymore, the deletion did not in fact free up any space - it's as if it's still there! any feedback on these two issues would be much appreciated... BTW, apart from these issues, plus EXTREMELY slow transfer speeds, the 808 is by far the best player in terms of playback quality - crystal clear! - that's i've personally come across...

i have an 808 and it plays WAV just fine - unless i'm missing someth. - i import everything in to SS in WAV and transfer in 'orginal format' - so i'm putting WAV on to it, right...
