No line out in the settings, but this is a line out for the Sony players (I use one myself in the car): http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-L5-Line-Cable-Walkman/dp/B003UCI2CI

All Sony mp3 players pretty much have the same SQ, just somewhat different build qualities & screens. Buy ANY Sony and be confident that you'll get excellent SQ.

Sony is preparing to launch an update for several of its high-end Walkman devices, according to
FCC certification documents filed last week by the company. The unannounced music players include models in the Walkman A and S series, which have had advanced features in the past such as an OLED screen, long battery life, and noise-cancelling technology. The Japanese company often refreshes its line of portable music players around this time each year.
What is most surprising could be the introduction of the Walkman A series in the U.S., as it sold in other major territories around the world for several years but has been missing stateside for several product cycles.
What we know is that Sony will offer four models of the luxury audio/video player: NWZ-A864 (8GB), NWZ-A865 (16GB), NWZ-A866 (32GB), and NWZ-A867 (64GB). The A867 would be the highest-capacity PMP Sony has ever offered in North America.
CNET has also learned that the refreshed A860 series Walkman will feature a large OLED touch screen, noise-cancelling technology, and integrated Bluetooth 2.0. There is no indication that Wi-Fi will be integrated.
Surprisingly, this will not be the fabled
Android Walkman, as the FCC documents note the integrated CPU will be underwhelming. It will most likely have the same user interface as past Walkman devices, and also have six buttons on the right side of the unit. Several colors will be available for the series, including black, white, pink, and other shades available across the various models, the documents show.As for the S Series, things are a little less clear. Sony's
FCC documents for this model note that there will be two versions: NWZ-S764 (8GB), and NWZ-S765 (16GB). The refreshed S will have a LCD screen, audio and video playback, and have Bluetooth 2.0. Expect a range of colors including black, white, and violet.Pricing for each variant of the A and S series have been discovered through Amazon, which accidentally jumped the gun and posted the prices online. The 8GB A864 will be $225; the 16GB A865 will go for $267, the 32GB A866 for $352, and the 64GB A867 for $494. Meanwhile, the more budget-friendly S series 8GB S764 will likely cost $182, and the 16GB will come in at $211.
It's worth noting these are direct currency conversions from the euro, which do not reflect potential pricing in the U.S.

We're getting a nice new Sony A Series Walkman here in the USA - where's the front page news article people???
-
ARRGH!!! Still no 64gb luv for us in the USA!!! Sony, really, WTH!!!
-
As always, no 32gb for North America,...***sigh***
-
Sorry to say, but the firmware you have is all you'll be able to use on your Sony DAP. Go to anythingbutipod.com and check out the Sony section of the forums, since this is more fully discussed there.

Still nothing new in the USA w/a 64gb Sony!
-
Again, I wait and wait for Sony to release a 64gb Walkman in the USA - I bought an iPod classic instead. Really, WTH is Sony thinking??? There's so many in the USA that would buy a HC Walkman and make Sony #1 again.
Sony is doing the same stupid thing they always do, shooting themselves in the foot.
-
Sonic Stage in the USA - I'd love it. Now bring us gapless on the Sony Walkman line and it'll bring Sony back to #1 IMO.
-
Use either the Sony Media Go app, or try Media Monkey - both work perfectly w/the Sony X Series, or any of the newer Sony NWZ Walkman models.
-
I'd go with the 64gb A Series over a 64gb X Series any day.
If Sony released a 64gb S63X Series player it would be perfect tho, as my S639 is the perfect Sony IMO.
The S639 is one of my all time favs.
My oldest son is using it ATM, and he better give it back in the same condition.

May i ask why you sold the X-Series?
What does the A-Series offer that the X-Series didnt (WIFI, Slacker, Web & Podcasts)
The new A Series offers capacity - which is what most of us have been asking for all along. Plus I'm not a fan of Sony's implementation of the "pause" on the X series, as the screen would always go on every time I pressed a control - made the battery life not too spectacular. And I also prefer tactile controls, and the upcoming A Series is TACTILE.
As for slacker, I have that on my Android phone, totally useless without wifi on the X Series IMO - just filler.
Besides, if you'd read my first post in this thread, you'd know why I want the new A Series.
-
I own the S639 (16gb), I sold my X-1061 32gb, I want a 64g Sony DAP w/tactile controls & a native English menu - 16gb is not an option.
-
Still no word at ALL on these in the USA so far, and a 64gb Sony DAP is the Holy Grail for me!!! What a bummer,............
-
I'd love it, but considering that this is yet another Sony A Series that's not making it to the USA/Canada - I now hate Sony. If it does hit here, it'll be in a lackluster capacity - most want 32gb-64gb capacities and I can almost guarantee we'll only get a max 16gb size.
-
Unless the XPERIA X10 gets a 2.1 or better update it's unfortunately a ***fail***. The iPhone is normally carried in a case anyways, and the antenna issue is a DEAD issue.
-
I was hoping the followup to this and the A Series would hit the USA/Canada already,..............Sony is a real no-show lately.
-
I just hope this makes it to the USA/Canada,...................it'll be a huge hit - especially w/ME!!!
-
I guess North America and Canada will get colored IEM's, but no new series of Walkman worth bothering with,..........................
-
If the capacity was greater I'd get this for my workouts, now that it's water resistant - which it should have been right from the start.
-
64gb or nothing - USA or Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'm just tired of waiting for a good sounding dap w/enough capacity for my needs. I really want this baby,......................
-
That link has nothing to do w/the 64gb model being released in Europe or the US, so it's useless.
NWZ-S764 sound problem...

There is no solution to the low volume issue,..as Sony most likely locked the service menu on all models nowadays. And all the EU models have the volume limit firmly in place - no link to a AVLS setting will help I'm afraid as it has NOTHING to do with that feature. That link to it above is a Sony service rep blowing smoke up peoples butts.
Currently there is no solution EXCEPT to purchase a non-volume restricted model. I would know,...I own/ed both EU and USA models. The USA models are quite loud.
