I wonder if this will be plagued by the constant "rebuilding the library" issue on every restart that has pissed everyone who owns 1 off. It's got potential, but get rid of that prob please Sony.
-
Even Cowon has given us gapless for mp3's (Cowon S9 Curve - I have it, and it's gapless!!!!!), and unless Sony does the same I'll NEVER buy 1 of their players again. They stopped it when they stopped forcing us to use Sonic Stage (I liked the software btw, just not being forced to use ATRAC for gapless), so now we get a dumbed down player w/no gapless as a penalty? Really - no gapless then no more Sony for ME!!!!

I want this in a 32gb version, as I'm not digging the X1000 series at ALL!!!

Sounds like you got a bad player (still, check to see if the headphone cable is properly inserted into the headphone jack). Also, go to the common settings menu and do a reset and reformat of the player if the first option didn't help.
If this didn't help then exchange it for another, and see if the problem resurfaces.
PS: Welcome to Sony Insider!!!!

I just want this baby. I sold my A829 & S639 in anticipation of getting this little dream machine. Once it's on the way to the net and stores my Cowon D2 will be sold as well. 32gb's of Sony goodness, all mine, MINE I SAY!!!!
Sorry, I just couldn't help me'self!!! This player, even tho it's got a crappy name and looks like a spilled salt and pepper shaker, is Da'Bomb!!!!!
There's just no way I can pass it up, or let it go once in my possession. And, @32gb, it's almost perfect.

With the device set to UMS mode, there's no need for software to transfer content.
Everything works, including:
- Cover art
- Years in tags
- Podcasts
This may be true, but most prefer to use a program to manage and sync their music collection. I personally have no use for drag and drop, some LOVE it. At the least, I'm merely providing an alternative option. J.River Media Jukebox works great as well, and some LOVE WMP11.
And as for the cover art, it only SOMETIMES works w/a Sony player, as I had no cover art show up on quite a few albums when I did drag and drop, for testing, on my A829, as well as my S639. Same for the date issue w/Sony dap's. And this is after editing the tags and embedding the .jpg's into said tags w/J.River, Media Monkey, and mp3tag.
PS: Ascariss is using drag and drop, and still has issues w/the date showing up. That's why I always recommend using a program to sync the Sony dap's.

The media manager program is terrible. Try Media Monkey, it's free, and has no spyware or additional crap:

Try the free program Media Monkey, works great w/all my Sony toys!!!

This, or the Cowon S9. Very sweet indeed. I now have the S639 (I'm in the US, so I imported it from the UK), and then this masterpiece comes along. 32gb, I'm there!!!!
-
Well, since this site is pretty much dead, take care all & best of luck!!!
-
The NWZS639 is already on sale in canada, I would guess it should be on sale in the US as well.
It's not being sold on the SonyStyle website, or at any online shops in the US yet. I hope that this won't be like the Samsung P2, as the 16gb version never became available in the US, but was sold in Canada.
-
I'm waiting for the 16gb model in the US myself!!! Great player!!!
-
I can't wait for the new S series to come out. I'm gonna' sell my A829 & get the 16gb model. Excellent little player with, finally, some great features. This is what Sony should have been doing all the while.

I'm going to pick up my 32gb Touch today - gonna' load it w/the Cult Of UHF video podcast and take it to work tonight. That and a few games & I'm good ta' go. My A829 has me covered for my tunes.
EDIT: Got the Touch 32gb and I can say it's better than I expected. SQ isn't as warm as my A829 or iAudio D2, but it's definitely better than the previous iPod's I have or have had. Touch for all but my tunes I guess. Feature wise nothing compares to this toy!!!

The perfect Sony player courtesy of AFSlug on anythingbutipod.com:

@Juli: You will require portable amp with portables to power most of the bigger phones .Even Sony is weak on audio output power .
Don't think she's going for the 300ohm cans so she should be fine. Besides, this isn't Head-Fi - it's Sony Insider. The audiophile setup is kinda' overkill for most. At least for me!!!
-
I wouldn't mind the Touch because it has a ton of really useful features, but I'd definitely never use it for music! I tried out a Nano + Bose n/c headphones recently, and I was really unimpressed with the Nano. It seemed to be weak on power, and the bass was just an indescribable noise. No doubt the Bose didn't help, but even so, if that was Apple's idea of convincing people to buy that particular combination, I'd sack all of them! It was just a horrible match.
The Sony's are so small, there's no reason not to keep one solely for music, and the Touch for anything else.
That mirrors my intentions exactly. A829 for music - Touch for games and my video podcasts + videos (movies). A little wi-fi hotspot also by my new job location doesn't hurt for YouTube vids either!!!

Do you think something will arise by the end of the month (Sept)? I'm hoping so!!!
-
I don't know, cedia passed and that was where I thought any new device would be shown, so prob will debut at CES 2009, jan 8-11. I hope I am wrong.
Well, on to another brand fo' me I guess!!! Thanks anyways!!!

Something "ground-breaking" (at least for Sony) is coming. It will be pretty wild.
Aw man, this keeping secrets thing is KILLIN' ME!!!! LOL - now I'm happy again. Just hope it's disclosed before I buy a Zune 120 or a ipod after the 9th.
Petition for Gapless playback on Sony players!
in Audio
Posted
If anyone is wanting gapless playback for the most common audio formats (mp3, AAC, etc) then please post in this thread. Hopefully someone will listen and give us 1 of the most basic of features (by today's standards) on the Sony players. My Zune has is, the iPod's all have it, even the Cowon S9 now has it.
Please, bring gapless playback to the Sony line of Walkman players - I'll wait till then to purchase 1. No gapless - no more me being a Sony customer!!!!
