  1. OK, I finally found where is the problem. If you download from IE, make sure your default download file type is not "zip" (when windows pop up for your saving location, you can change it). Simplest way: delete the ".zip" extension excluding NW-S710F package.

  2. 1. Download your favorite skin (*.ojs) from one of the following links (click select your favorite skin and download it)

    a. http://www.sonymatome.com/sonicstage/index...%83%BC%E3%83%89**

**IE will save ojs as zip. If so, remove the ".zip" extension excluding NW-S710F

    c. http://www18.ocn.ne.jp/~yum/gallary/

    d. http://www.evolbird.com/material/sonicstage_skin/

    2. Unzip it if needed, and copy the *.ojs file/s into c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\Skins. ("Application Data" is hidden by default)

    3. Now select the skin in SS. Enjoy

  3. So am I supposed to change my Default Windows Input language to Japanese is my default system language to Japanese? I downloaded the program and checked all of the boxes for the install. Do I run SS through AppLocale or what? Still need more help and I don't want to change my default Windows language, which is English.

    1. No need to change as following(depends on your Windows original default):

Regional and Language Options>Text Services and Input Languages>Default input language>English (United States) - US

    2. No need to run with AppLocale (both mentioned programs), forget it.

If Japanese/Chinese characters are still garbled, change the default language (normally there is no need to do this step), say, to Japanese as following:

Regional and Language Options>Advanced>Language for non-Unicode programs>Japanese or Chinese ...

It works for latest and earlier SS versions on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Not tested on Vista.

    Hope this helps

  4. Here is my experience, I have done the following and so far the Trad/Simp Chinese, and Japanese characters are displayed correctly in my SS4.2/4.3. Use default language SS is OK.

Simply install the "Minimum Installation (you can uncheck the Japanese input method for further)" of "Unicode for Chinese and Japanese (Unicode Extension) for Windows (Windows 95 98 ME 2000 XP) http://search.cpatch.org/download/patchuti...odeaton_250.exe (Non-Microsoft software). It works for English, Simplified/Tradtional Chinese Windows, and/or Jap. Windows (not tested so far on mine). Yeah, FreeBSD and Linux are supported (get it from Homepage). There is no mention for Windows Vista. The installation interface will be changed according to your default language. The only discrepancy is it will mess up the "FrontPage XP" code, and warning will be displayed if there. There is no need to edit registry entry!

  5. Use SS "Import Folder" will keep the CD's metadata - depending on your mp3 data, say, year, bitrate (incorrect on VBR), ...

I currently play with other Sony player, and don't want to play the A3000 at the moment. Do you mean the A3000 can play with the mains charger on after activating the Intelligent Features?

  6. ... quite a few functions no longer work, like 'time machine shuffle' and 'artist link shuffle' (greyed out in the menu) and other functions like 'top 100' and 'play history' bring up the 'please connect compliant software message'. The player also no longer will plays when connected to the car charger or mains charger (it did prior to this issue occuring)

    Select Tools>Options>Transfer>Transfer Settings>Advanced..> "Intelligent Features">Use Intelligent Features>Transfer after Getting ....

Please take note it takes (long) time if SS needs to get it from the Internet.

Strange! I never find it plays via earphone while connecting with a PC, or charging. Maybe I disable this feature on my A3000??

  7. Does the song title in SonicStage containing East Asian Languages characters? If so, make sure "Install files for East Asian languages" is selected (and dim) ( Control Panel>Date, ..., Regional Options>Regional and Language Options>Language>)

Removing files inside "program files>common files>sony shared" will destroy your Atrac song ID that making fresh SS no longer has rights to transfer it except re-importing it but messed.

  8. It may be unfair because NW-A1xxx/A3xxx series operating system is more complicated than NW-HDx series, say, Windows NT and Windows 2000.

  9. So, is the reviewer saying that NW-A3000 series is trans-coding MP3 into ATRAC3 in real-time, that is as the music is being played?

Consiering even PC takes some time to transcode, it's highly unlikely that the NW-A3000 is doing that (or is the NW-A3000 faster than PC?????).

Who is the reviewer anyway? Plus, where is the evidence to back this?

Also, just as pata above mentioned, battery life difference between MP3 and ATRAC3 would be great, if that were true.

In other words, I don't believe that's true.

  10. Not words. It is my experience - I once formatted my Vaio pocket and NW-A3000 with M$ formatter (Windows 2000, and XP) for housekeeping but this issue happens on and off. It doesn't happen after initializing it with player's formatter. The way NW-A3000 (maybe all NW-A series) use for USB connection is no good at all because the NW-A3000 can't be charged while transfering songs (if battery is low, your pc may be sluggish or frozen). Yes, your mileage may be varied.

  11. Hi,

Well, I don't have back-up actually. All music I have now is on my Vaio as I don't have my other computer anymore. If I do initialise disk now, I will lose all data and if it doesn't want to connect afterwards I won't have any portable music player with music :s.

Do you think it's worth the shot? What to do if it still doesn't work then?

My musical life is in your hands people! ;)

If you satisfy current situation, stay there.

  12. The problem is that SonicStage starts, but it says "The connection between the device and the computer is unstable. Disconnect and reconnect them. If you connect the device to a different USB port and the device is still not recognised, delete all tracks on the device by clicking 'Controls' selecting 'Device/Media' and then selecting 'Delete all tracks".

Have you formatted the NW-A1200 while using Windows? If yes, and backup is available, re-format (Home>Settings>Initilize Disk) it. Again, connect NW-A1200 to your computer's USB port (not external hub's port).

Remember Windows's formatter will bring incompatible issue.
