  1. NW-E002F/E003F/E005F Firmware Update Version 2.0

    Sony-E002mainsmall.jpg

Sony today released the firmware upgrade for Network Walkmans NW-E002F/E003F/E005F. The firmware update is of version 2.01 and amount to approximately 4,534KB.

    Models Affected: NW-E002F/E003F/E005F

DOWNLOAD LINK: Sony Asia Pacific (4,534KB)

The above mentioned link is for v2.00.02, not V2.01.00 - this can be found at http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/...;subpage=detail

When customers try to playback a song selected with SEARCH, the player show FILE ERROR, and do not start to playback in rare cases.

  2. Here is my experience, I have done the following and so far the Trad/Simp Chinese, and Japanese characters are displayed correctly in my SS4.2/4.3. Use default language SS is OK.

Simply install the "Minimum Installation (you can uncheck the Japanese input method for further)" of "Unicode for Chinese and Japanese (Unicode Extension) for Windows (Windows 95 98 ME 2000 XP) http://search.cpatch.org/download/patchuti...odeaton_250.exe (Non-Microsoft software). It works for English, Simplified/Tradtional Chinese Windows, and/or Jap. Windows (not tested so far on mine). Yeah, FreeBSD and Linux are supported (get it from Homepage). There is no mention for Windows Vista. The installation interface will be changed according to your default language. The only discrepancy is it will mess up the "FrontPage XP" code, and warning will be displayed if there. There is no need to edit registry entry!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. No need to change as following(depends on your Windows original default):

Regional and Language Options>Text Services and Input Languages>Default input language>English (United States) - US

    2. No need to run with AppLocale (both mentioned programs), forget it.

If Japanese/Chinese characters are still garbled, change the default language (normally there is no need to do this step), say, to Chinese as following:

    Regional and Language Options>Advanced>Language for non-Unicode programs>Chinese ...

It works for latest and earlier SS versions on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Not tested on Vista.

  3. It seems the HD format was not successfully complete because the Skins are there. Yes, it takes time at "computing" - it depends on how many songs on Vaio. You can see the information finally. If problem perists, it may be hardware issue - hard disk, ... There is a factory Reset button inside the hole (just next Vaio "connector-to-dock").

If you connect your Vaio directly to PC's USB port (not external USB hub), I am at wit's end.

  4. Well.... When I formatted the Sony, I didn't "back up" the firmware. Now when I try to detect the firmware, it fails to do so. Could this be the issue?

I still think I should be able to 'force' the driver, so I can at least transfer the firmware folder back into the Sony. (in which case I guess all my problems would be solved hehe)

Based on my understandings, user can't back up and downgrade the Vaio firmware. If you're using the latest firmware 3.0.0.C171F (can be seen at Main Menu>Settings>System Information). You should back up the Vaio_Skin folder because the HDD FORMAT will erase it. Yes, you can get SKIN back from this site or from the downloaded firmware file.

Vaio is using generic driver (Microsoft) for hardware connection. If hardware connection is ok but it can't be seen with SS, or unstable, please check whether you've any virtual CD/Image/network drive/s that occupied the drive letter instead of Sony HMP-U01 USB. (As mentioned before, incorrect format procedure will bring you this issue too.) It can be rectified with Windows disk manager or un-mount the virtual drive.

  5. Just in case you missed some steps.

Japanese firmware > English firmware (same version or higher verion)

    1. Copy English firmware to VGF-AP1(L)'s root directory.

    2. Properly disconnect the fully charged VGF-AP1(L).

    3. While ready, go to メインメニュー (Main Menu) ---> 設定 (Settings) ---> ファームウェアアップデート (Firmware Update) ---> アップデート (Update) and OK.

  6. In Hong Kong some latest series of Sony products [come with Bluetooth(for wireless headphone ...) + HD] do support AtracCD.

    ----

    MP3 for everything.

.. There isn't a single modern device that doesn't support it and is therefore the only way to go...

Yes, but the encoding/decoding standard is not the same.

  7. You've no choice, Atrac CD is 256K only

Sony doesn't allow 192kbps for AtracCD. The only bitrates supported for AtracCD are Atrac3 bitrates (132kbps, 105kbps, 66kbps), and Atrac3+ (256kbps, 64kbps, and 48kbps). Anything other than those will be transcoded. Period. I'm amazed that people are happy to give wrong information here.

Yes, you're right - it fits for my portable CD player D-NE800 too but not standardized as learned! It is wise to consult the manual first so your time is not spent useless, and extra money on CD's. 256k is my fault-free choice.

  8. Menu Language: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese Characters, Traditional Characters, Korean

Specification - more details can be found at Sony HK Website

Warning, please double check it locally, it may be a localized product
