If you just want to record vinyl mixes to HIMD.... I just run a stereo mini-plug from one of my outputs on my Vestax PMC-05 straight into my Hi-MD. Hit record (PCM), and then upload the file through Sonicstage 3.2, or Wav converter. If its over 70 minutes (or so) Sonicstage splits up the WAV file, so I just use Soundforge to merge the tracks. Then I edit in Soundforge and then save as mp3/etc.
-
Bottom line: Audiophiles, like most of us on this board, love the fidelity of True SP, and better yet PCM of HI-MD. We are also the people that still buy vinyl and clean to grooves under a microscope before we record PCM on our Hi-MD units. I'd say the only real selling point is its portable recoding power. I truly love recording vinyl onto my HI-MD, then uploading it to my pc(s), using Soundforge to edit a little and then being able to listen to the final product on whatever medium I choose, whether on an IPOD, NH1, CD, MP3, or on my RH10. Maybe not exactly on topic....but I just had to share that.
-
I have both as well... And I got the RH10 solely for the OLED screen. You can see the recording levels a lot easier. The NH1's build quality and appearance is superb.

Sharp AD-T51BT battery + AA adapter Summer cleaning led me to these babies....anyone need them? Willing to sell to any needing MD person/collector, just throw me an offer. I'm thinking these are from one of my old Sharp's but I don't know which.
-
Cleaning out my drawers, found my old Sharp recorder.... Sharp MD-MT770 - MDLP, Portable MD-recorder looking for a collector, or a unit for spare parts etc. Selling for $50. This player-recorder plays standard MD (SP) and MDLP modes, not the newer HI-MD media. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sharp_MD-MT770+MT888.html The seems to be problems with the unit charging the internal (but removeable) battery. Maybe the contacts need a good clean, the unit will start charging then stop. However, the add-on battery (AA) works perfectly and allows for recording.

Personally, the lower prices attract me...and the MP3 capability. I use my NH1 to record vinyl mixes and then upload via the Wav Converter, and listen to mp3 mixes at the gym. ...but I don't really mind the way I transferred MP3's into Atrac using sonicstage. Also, I really like the look and feel of my NH1....which seems to be missing in the 2nd Gen Models.
-
I've done some (only a few big files) experimenting with storing files on both types of MD's (1 GB and old school MD's)...and haven't had any problems... However, the transfer rate is pretty slow
-
So then what exactly is the difference...? I always use the "line out" option on my Nh1 in my car, and on my mini-hi-fi in the kitchen, and it does seem to sound clearer
-
please...... Although I don't really mind the SonicStage conversion time that much, natural MP3 would be SICK!!!!!!
-
Nice.....I was actually wondering abou this the other day. I guess now I have my answer...

Just wondering....haven't seen any discussion on this in a while? :wacky:

OK...made a 79 min dnb mix last night. Recorded via PCM on a 1GB disc and recorded right in my NH1. I first copied the file into sonicstage 2.2's "My Library"...which took about 60 mins. (I was worried about losing the file from talk on earlier posts) Next, opened up Wav Converter...converted the file within 1 min...on an 3.2 ghz XP machine. It does create two .wav tracks....which is really lame. However, its a non-issue for me...opened up Sound Forge and combined the two .wav files. Burned it to a cd and it sounds AWESOME!!! The sound quality is so much better than old SP....this is the first mix that I have recorded on my new NH1 and you can definitely tell the difference. Overall, I'm pretty stoked on it. the only drawback is how long it took to transfer into Sonicstage from the player...its not exactly a high-speed upload.

How come when it seems that Minidisc is about to finally get it right, all this shit happens.... ...I'm getting really frustrated and I love the MD format. I don't have the time to do practice runs and patience to hope that the program works as promised. I downloaded the wav converter last night and now I'm scared of recording onto the disc via PCM because I don't want to lose an 80 min one-track mix.
-
I haven't downloaded the new tool, but so if I'm reading your posts correctly, if I make a 79 minute mix in PCM mode...when I use the program to output to WAV, it will cut the .WAV at 650 MB or does it split the recording into two tracks at the 650 MB mark? If it does the later, couldn't you just merge the two files in Soundforge with no loss of audio? ...I haven't spend the time to read all the homebrew programs, but I will.

I've got 35 drum and bass mixes on one 1GB disc encoded Hi-LP and I couldn't be happier as well. ....only 7 mb left on my disc, HA!

Thanks for the interest guys, now you're making feel like I should hold on to it Anyhow, all offers will be considered

Hello MD fans, Just purchased a NH1 and I am selling my favorite piece of hi-fi equipment, the black Sony MDS-JA333ES (USA model). I am getting rid of all my MDLP equipment to move room for the new Hi-MD home units when they become available. I am the original owner, have used it for only a couple years, and still have the original box. I used the unit to record vinyl dj mixes onto MD, and then dubbing it onto CD, etc. It has everything you would want from digital to analog volume increasing while recording. The only signs of wear are a few scuff marks and scratches on top rear of the unit. Will ship anywhere in the USA. Everything in the pictures is included: The main unit, the remote control, original box. I have misplaced the manual, but it can be found here: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_...33es_manual.pdf MDS-JA333ES - msrp $1000.00 asking $500.00 • ATRAC Type R Compression Method • Dynamic Range >106 dB • Signal To Noise Ratio >106 dB • Harmonic Distortion <0.0025% • A/D Converter 24 BIT • MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play Mode) Yes • Shock Resistant Memory Yes • CD Text Transfer Yes • Optical Inputs 2 • Coaxial Input 1 • Line Level Output 1 • Optical Output 1 • Coaxial Output 1 • Headphone Jack 1/4" Type Weight: 23 lbs. 2 oz (10.5 kg) Dimensions: 17 x 4 7/8 x 14 3/4" (430 x 123.5 x 375.5 mm) All information was obtained from the link below: http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/h...gitalrecorders/ The flash makes it look way more scratched than it is, you can only really see the ones in the back:

so it sounded pretty horrid did it? Yeah, I'd say classical music or music with a lot of strings, etc wouldn't take the compression too lightly. I listen to a lot of music with 50 things going on at once, with beat matching overlaying songs....so its hard to hear the effects of the compression.

Did some airline travel and have been to the gym while listening to mixes encoded at Hi-LP. I love the NH1's equalizer, and to listen to 10 hours of music on an old 80 minute disc is awesome. I didn't like two of the mixes and just swapped those for two new ones. Its great because now I only need one disc and I can swap files very easily and never take out the disc. My conclusion, it sounds great for the drum and bass mixes I listen to. More clear bass and treble than the original LP4....and I'm more than happy.

Sony MDX-66XLP Bought it 2 years ago but have not used it in one year....bought a new car a year ago and finally got around to selling it. Waiting for a Hi-MD deck so therefore I have no need for it.... willing to get rid of it cheap. I have the box and instructions for the MDX-66XLP. Comes with all the screws except for one as far as I can tell but my Car Audio shop used different ones anyway. Also, its missing the adheasive stickers but you'd probably want to bolt the unit down. The unit itself has a fair amount of scratches on it but everything is in working order. I'll give a 30 day warranty to make sure. I really don't need this and I know there has got to be a fellow MD fan out there to take it. I live in the US (CA) and can take Paypal. PM me or send me an email at swarm777@yahoo.com My ebay feedback: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws1/eBayISAPI.dll...userid=skier666 It goes for as much as $250 to $450 new....I'm willing to sell it for $100 US /OBO... Just made a whole Hi-MD formatted MD disc of Hi-LP dnb dj sets...will listen on my weekend trip to Hawaii and let you guys know what I think...
-
Yeah, I have the NH1 USA model and it goes loud enough...I'm usually listening to dnb but I tend to listen at higher levels like 27 or so when working out and using crappy earphones. However, using my Sony MDR-EX71SL and Sony MDR-V700DJ anywhere from 20 up seems fine...
-
Yeah, LP4 has pretty sounded fine for what I use my MD's....which is basically downloading MP3 dj sets and then listening to them at my gym or while travelling. However, I think it has a lot to do with the loud, fast, and high bpm music at high volumes....LP4 really is perfectly fine and I'm going to make some Hi-MD reformatted discs on Hi-LP to see how it sounds. From what I've read, you don't gain much more space by using LP4 so I'll tell you guys what I think, maybe even listen to the same files. The other thing I like about the NH1 is how it has the Custom equalizer function much like the E10. I noticed on my wife's mini-ipod that, as far as I know, I couldn't get it to enter an equalizer mode, just a whole bunch of presets.
-
Ok, been playing around with my new NH1 and I'm pretty happy with it... Although, like others have stated, the one-line LCD screen on the player itself is absolutely horrible and is virtually impossible to read, however my old LP4 recordings sound alot better on this player. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm primarily listening to drum and bass at high volumes while running on the treadmill with a pair of the token Sony Sports earphones. My old player was the S1. Cheers

better send Jammin an email....
