  1. thanks.....does this tool JUST backup the 352kbps part, or the whole lossless file?? if its the whole thing, i can just copy them, using nero......but if it just backs up the 352 version, this is what im looking for! is it supposed to run that slow though??? i elft it going for an hour and it was still "calculating the required disc space" -x-x-x-
  2. is it snot possible for burn a whole load of atrac files to a dvd-r? rather than a cd-r? when i put a blak dvd into the drive, sonicstage says it only has 400mb free space, when it actually has over 4GB anyone know why this is? i need to transfer lots of my files to another computer, but my collection is now in lossless + 352kbps i dont have teh space on the other computer for the losless versions, so i want to just transfer the atrac 352 versions. -x-x-x-
  3. okay, thanks again for the info. so i think im just gonna go with atrac lossless for my pc and a fairly low rate for my player so that i can fit more on (132 atrac3....i figure, this is the standard that sony uses for its own PAID downloads, so it cant be too bad, having jsut listened to it, its not so bad, and its gapless if i re-rip evrything from the cd's.....which is gonna take a few days). interesting news on the ipod front......ive never been a fan of ipods though, hehe. i guess they must use some kind of cross fading like winamp does? i think gapless and listenable quality for the player, and gapless top quality for my pc is the most important to me, so without buying a new player, this is my only option at the mo. thanks again for helping me. -x-x-x-
  4. okay, thanks for the reply. well, gapless means alot to me, since i listen to alot of live albums, and also albums thatflow from one track to the next. but that sounds really bizarre, that it converts from the lossy version...... if i ripped my cd's to another format, say monkey audio (also lossless), if i iomported those into sonicstage, could i then transfer to my device in atract, and would it still be lossless? or is the only way to rip direct from the cd in sonicstage? thanks again -x-x-x-
  5. Hello. I'm Just wondering if anyone can help me out reguarding the lossless atrac format used in sonicstage CP 4.0? I have the NWA3000, and recently had a few problems, so i decided to restart from scratch and initialise the player. Then went to my pc to find that for some reason it had removed most of the atract files from my pc already having most of my cd's backed up in high quality mp3, i decided to just import those and convert during transfer to my play, but i find the resulting sound quality to be not all that great, and also, my albums are no longer gapless...... anyway, i'm going to re-rip all my cd's to fix this problem.....but im concerned about using an option ive just seen for lossless ripping. basically, i want to know if, once its ripped from the cd, can you change your mind about which bitrate you actually want on your player? for example, if i rip everything in lossless + 352kbps atrac, can i then change my mind and convrt to a lower bitrate, say 132 for the actual transfer.....and if so, would it convert from the lossless part of the file, or from the 352kbps part? because if ive learned one thing from this whole experience, its that converting from one lossy file to another......not good. if it takes it from the lossless version, that is fine and ill re-rip it all.....if not, should i just forget ripping from the cd in atrac and move to another lossless format??? any help? thanks -x-x-x- ::EDIT:: Also, in october, im going to canada, to see a friend, who's just bought an nwa1000, but she's not very good with computers, so i told her id sort it out for her. to save me spending my holiday ripping her cd's for her (which lets face it, takes a while), i was wondering if i could just bring the files from my library and import them onto her pc? (we both own alot of the same cd's) i didnt tick the option for copy protection, so there should be no DRM in my files, but i heard that you could still only trasnfer them to and from one computer???? if this is possible.....would i have to bring the files from my PC on a hdd? or cpould i jsut transfer them from my player to her pc? again, answers much appreciated -x-x-x-

    Battery Life A3000

well the 35 hours stated is based i think on the lowest bitrate of atrac, mid volume, etc etc. also, do you use any of the EQ settings.....i find that makes a HUGE difference. anyways i use min brightness, max vol, 64kbps atrac, no screensaver, etc, and i get around 25 or more hours, depending on usage. there are so many factors involved.....play mode, the ammo8unt of time you sepond swithcing between tracks, and pressing buttons on the player. 13 hours does seem kidna short though......but maybe try a lower bitrate ir something? -x-x-x-

    Battery Life A3000

when you say 13 hours.....do you mean that after 13 horus it does actually shut off because the battery is dead? or do you mean that its on the last bar, so you charge it? i find that my player goes to the last bar of battery life fairly quickly.......but stays there for a very long time. if you didnt let it run all the way down, try that, because as i said, beign on the last bar of battery life doesnt neccessarily mean that its out of juice. -x-x-x-
  8. EXACTLY!!! My 3000 was going SO SLOW when i updated to firmware 3.0 and the new SS4.0CP. It was taking ages to start up, and took at least 2 or 3 seconds the scroll between each screen (such as when scrolling through the a-z of artists) I reconnected, defragmented, and its now working BETTER THAN EVER. Its so fast now, a real improvement -x-x-x-
  9. anyone else find that, after updating, the player now takes ALOT LONGER to think about things. for example, before the update, it was quick and easy to search through the a-z and find the right artist....but after the update, it takes a good 2-3 seconds to through EACH LETTER. i think this is very frustrating because i updated, thinking it would IMPROVE the player, but its made it ALOT WORSE, because it now takes me a good 5 minutes just to find the artist im looking for ::EDIT:: WOOOHOO not sure if this i ognna last long or, whether i just got unlucky the first time round? but i just reconnected the player to the pc....DIDNT open sonicstage....but performed disc check, choosing to fix all errors automatically, etc etc.....then defragmented.....disconnected....and now its bck to tis old speed.....BUT STILL HAS THE ADDED FEATURES luvlly jubbly -x-x-x-
  10. does anyone know if it is possible to make a 1.5 PSP playback atrac files? i have quite a large collection in sonicstage.....i connected my psp and transfered a few albums, but when i goto the psp main menu, under music, it says no files. i don't want to upgrade, is there any other way to get atrac working?
  11. awesome man. this didnt work for me when i tried it a while back.....although admittedly i didnt try usign a different usb port...hmmm. anyways, i dont really use the srtist link funtion or top 100 or anything like that. i tend to know what i want and when i want it, so i just browse by artist to fidn the album im after..... so ill prolly still stick to sonicstage. but glad you sorted it -x-x-x-
  12. exactly... if you really need the extra features like artist link, top 100, etc etc.....APPARENTLY, if you use sonicstage to do all the transfers, then close ss, open connect player, it will sync all the artist link info...... this is what im sure soemone else has written here..........however i cant even get connect player to load up properly anymore, so im not risking it, but you could always give it a go.....worst comes to worst, it doesnt work, maybe youll hjave to retransfer using sonicstage...... -x-x-x-
  13. uninstall connect. initialise the disk of the unit itself from its options menu. install sonic stage 3.4 and import your library into it. connect the a3000 and let it sync. all your music back on the player, problem solved trust me, once you start getting problems with connect, there is no solution..... i had the same thing man, connect worked fine the FIRST time i sued it, and ONLY the first time.....if you go back to add mroe music it messes up and goes mental. itll never be the same again, no matter how many times you uninstall or reinstall....even if you completely remove all traces of teh software from your pc...... welcome to the fabulous world of sonic stage. you will lose the advanced features of the player, like artist link, but this software is far more stable and reliable i find -x-x-x-
  14. okay, so thats understandable....higher volume means lower battery life....but i mean, 10 to 15 hhours with low bitrates like 64kbps....and using the supposedly more battery efficiet ATRAC3plus format? it just seems a lil flimsy considering its supposed to be above 30 hours, and im not gettign half of that.
  15. Just quickie... does anyone know if this volume hack is REALLY bad for battery life. i got my a3000 a few weeks ago, and one of the first thigns i did was to do this volume hack, because i likew thigns fairly loud however i wasn't gettign good battery life, although i did admittedly have vbr mp3's 192-320kbps....p-retty extreme i know. so i thought, what the hell, itll take a while, but it mgiht be worth it.......i converted ALL my cd's to atrac3plus 64kbps direct from the cd. they actually sound not too bad quality wise, and i can now fit ALL my mus on instead of the half that i could fit wiht ym mp3's....and theres the bonus of GAPLESS playback however, i was under the impression that i should be getting around 30 horus playback from this badboy.... even at 64kbps atrac3plus....i can be getting no mroe than about 15 hours TOPS. i use it every day walkign to work....which is 5 days a week, for about 20 minutes each time....then i use it at lunchtimes for about 30 minutes a day then walkign home another 20 mins...... so thats about an hour or jsut over each day....and im having to charge it EVERY week. each STEP of the battery life seems to last only a couple of hours or so.... could it be the volune hack causing this? i usually listen at volkune 20 (with teh hack) and NO EQ!!!! -x-x-x-
  16. you'll get the "compliant software" message whenever you use s.s..... it is basically just to remind you that unless you use sony's "connect" player software to trasnfer the files, certain functions of the player willl be unavailable....such as artist link. if you don't use these functions, i'd say, stick with s.s. because its alot more reliable. if you really want them, youll have to use connect to transfer.....and youll have to wait about a billion years for the software to "update" the artist link info after you import your media files..... and even then, you'll find that some of your tracks are not transferred to the device, giving unspecified "error" messages. also, after a while the whole program will come to a grinding halt, and never work again, until you completely remove every trace of the program from your pc, then re-install and start over....i have a pretty good pc, and even mine can not handle this program......to be honest, i think the folks at NASSA would struggle.... basically, stick with S.S. and don't worry about the "connect compliant software" message i learned this after days of trying to get this connect software to work. if you stick to s.s. its a very reliable and useful piece of software, and your player will still work flawlessly, except without certain advanced functions....
