  1. Hi guys, I'm in Seattle, and am considering the purchase of a harp that is made in Tasmania. The harpmaker doesn't have good sound clips on the web, although he is posting me a VHS tape with a movie of people playing his harps. I'm wondering if any locals are willing to journey to Cygnet (his town) and record some sound samples, then upload and email to me. It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper than me flying to Australia... If you're willing, let me know and I'll get location info to you. Thanks, D.
  2. I know this had to be on here somewhere...how to bring my live MDLP recordings onto the PC...because I did it in the fall with my son's school concert. I KNOW that it is not possible to upload these recordings into Sonic Stage. I am not concerned with that. I just want to get the music from the MD onto the PC. My brother will be visiting a harp shop in the UK and recording some live sound samples for me, then I have asked him to email them to me here in the US. It's my job to find out how he does this. I have spent a while combing old posts and while I found two posts referencing "post 7073," whenever I click it there's an error message that this post is not a valid post. Is it still available on the board? I'm guessing I need some combo of sound card/cable with miniplug/headphone jack? Thanks.
  3. Hi, I already responded to this once, and it seems to have vanished. Japan Direct got me that Clarion unit in November. My local Car Toys installed it for $110. Nice unit, pretty colors :-) and reasonable price, much lower than MSRP. No customs either. D.
  4. Sony MDX-66XLP for sale. Purchased new from Crutchfield in 5/2003; installed immediately and used until 3/04 when I sold that car. It has been sitting in a desk drawer since then. Worked fine. MDLP capability, etc.; here is Crutchfield's page for the unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-my4LZvrhL5v/c...search=minidisc Was $449 new, asking $250 including shipping in the lower 48. Please contact me if interested. donna@joyoftoast.com
  5. I used to use SP on my old (pre-MDLP) recorder - optical out from my bookshelf system to the portable. Now I use LP2 or LP4 (with Sonic Stage) on my NZ-707. All my listening is done in the car - maybe five hours a year, I listen to a disc on my portable - and I don't notice a difference. Guess I should have qualified that. Though I may test this tonight. I'll report back.
  6. I must disagree, Dex, I can't hear any difference between SP and LP4 for music.
  7. Hi all, Had this in my BMW trunk, but sold the car and bought a new MD head unit for the new truck. This was used for less than a year and has been sitting in a closet since April. Selling for $275. Minidisco has them new for $399.99. Shipping will be actual UPS charges to your destination. If you are interested please pm me. I can take photos if you need to see it. This unit worked perfectly the whole time I had it installed. Donna
  8. Japan-Direct got my head unit. I emailed on 12/3 to ask about availability. They responded on 12/4. I paid by PayPal on 12/4. They shipped the unit on 12/9. Customs didn't clear it until the 15th, so I didn't get it until the 16th. So, I support Japan-Direct but I HATE US CUSTOMS! On the other hand, I haven't (yet) been asked to pay any duty on it. Car Toys installed it this morning. There were a couple of issues when I drove off - notably that if I started going more than 5mph the power cut out! I took it back later in the day and they fixed it up. I'll put a link to a short video tomorrow because you can change the color of the lighting on it and one of the settings is "Color Scan" where it goes slowly through the entire color spectrum as you drive. But this has to be done at night. In the day the DMZ345BK looks dark grey with a clear overlay. Anyway, I'm a happy chick and will be doing a lot more driving!! D.
  9. All gone, thanks for looking.
  10. Hi all, When I was trying to find a certain MD in my collection last week, I came across a lot of blanks stashed in various areas. Since I prefer to use unique discs, these are sometimes where I got a 10-pack and had 2 repeats in the pack: I kept one and stashed the other. The others are all old black discs from early in the format (even a 60-minute one!) where I transferred all the songs to jazzier discs later on. I don't need all these extras and probably wouldn't use them in the next couple of years. They can be yours. Visit my website at www.us-picks.com/mdlist.htm to see what I've got available and for prices. Thanks, D.
  11. Result! Japan-Direct is getting the Clarion for me. Donna
  12. Well, that's what we thought, but since they have MDLP and NetMD listed as separate features we actually wondered if you could hook up your laptop in the car and record! D.
  13. Oh, I got a reply, but it's not encouraging. They said they're going to try to get the Clarion for me, but that it's up to me to keep checking back on their website; i.e., they can't be bothered to notify me of its availability? Seems like another example of weak customer service. I checked out melting-pot.com too (I bought my first portable from them in '97) but they have not responded to my 'special order' email. I also found 2 Japanese shopping sites that I emailed to see if they will ship to the US. D.
  14. What exactly does it mean when a car stereo spec has "NetMD" listed as a feature? I thought NetMD was something to do with computers and recording to MD, but did not think it was a specific kind of recording method that needed its own capability. These are units where MD and MDLP are also listed, so I don't quite get it. Thanks, D.
  15. You are not mistaken. I want CD (for DH to use) and MD (for me to use) and I haven't found any single-DINs that combine both. Radio features are not, however, required; neither of us listens to the car radio. I'm still hunting down that Clarion model. Wrote to minidisco.com to see if they can get it for me. D.

    iPod vs. NetMD

Something nobody addressed yet (and I realize this is a really old discussion), can't do iPods in the car. I use MD almost exclusively for creating discs for the car, so, MD wins. Plus I like collecting the pretty little discs! D.
  17. Well, I don't like the Pioneer to look at. They had the CD/Cassette model at Car Toys (looks just like the CD/MD before you flip the face down); it's just a bit blah. As you said. I have written to see if Audiocubes can get either the Sony WX-S2000 (similar to 5900MD but orange lighting instead of blue, and the MSRP on the Sony site is quite a bit lower (about 14,000 yen); or the Clarion/Addzest DMZ735LP which I saw on minidisct.com. The Clarion one is a sweetie to look at, but then, DH says Clarion is not as good as Sony or Pioneer for sound quality. Never having had a Clarion component (or knowing anyone who has) I can't say. Audiocubes is checking on those 2 models for me. D.
  18. Dunno; factory standard for an Expedition. I'm not planning to change them.
  19. Nope. Strictly MDLP and purchased audio CDs. D.
  20. Wouldn't you simply use a basic CD burner package? Most PCs come with some basic burner thing included. In fact I think Windows Media Player can burn CDs for you. I only use my CD drive for reading, not writing, so I can't confirm this, but it seems like a pretty easy process. Donna
  21. OK. $600 is my top limit. I just can't see any of the "over $600" features being worth my while. I'm looking at all the Audiocubes 2Din units that are black and under $600. It's a complete toss-up between them all, except I don't really like the look of the Pioneer FH-P077MD. So, the Alpine, Sony and Panasonic black units under $600. Thanks. Next week is fine on that other issue, BTW. D.
  22. kurisu, I never visit this board anymore unless I really have been thinking about MD. You want the 66XLP? Let me know. It's in a bag in a closet somewhere with all the bits and bobs. I really am going to get an in-dash unit soon, though! Just a question of which one. D.
  23. Hi all, Finally sold enough stuff on ebay that I can now afford almost any MD car stereo out there (though I refuse to pay more than, say, $700 for it). I need a unit that handles MDLP; am wondering the following: 1. Does anybody have feedback on Audiocubes? They seem to be the only US-based store that has a variety of models. Everyone else seems to be Sony-only. 2. Do you have a specific 2DIN model in your car that you really like? What's so great about it? 3. Do you know of any other online stores like Audiocubes that sell some of the higher-end manufacturers? I have tried browsing the manufacturer websites in Japanese but since that's not a language I know, it's all Greek to me (pardon the mixed metaphor). The only info I get from those sites is the pretty pictures of the units and generally a list showing what formats it's compatible with. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks, Donna
  24. Believe me, I'm on audiocubes all the time, that stuff is right up my alley. Unfortunately the money is not yet present. But I am offloading bunches of junk on ebay so maybe I can use the profits for one of those units!! Thanks for the pointers, Donna
  25. Hi kurisu, What I should have said was, I don't feel that as a listener I will gain much by investing in Hi-MD. I only listen to music in the car, and with ambient road noise (and the chattering of my 4-year-old) it's likely that any noticeable improvement in sound quality will go unnoticed. I have a MDLP portable unit that sits by my desk permanently for recording purposes, and hopefully will get a car unit soon. Plus there is the cost factor involved; cost of a new recorder...and given the uncertainty surrounding Hi-MD car units (and since I want a car unit NOW!) I think I'll stick with MDLP. Who knows, maybe next year I'll change my mind, but right now the benefits of Hi-MD are not outstanding enough to warrant the purchase of a new unit and the postponement of my in-dash receiver. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you posted about my car unit. I have the Sony changer which I could have installed *if* I switched out the factory radio for something Sony - which is always reliable and it wouldn't have to be an MD head unit. But the Sony ones are so boring :whatever: I just can't make up my mind. D.
