  1. sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet...hi-md is making a place for itself in home systems. Only thing I'm not seeing is a hookup with the computer for titling but there might be a keyboard input...would like to see the back of this unit...
  2. I'm in the same boat as you Lycee. I contacted rp and they said they would be supporting hi-md with the release of the second generation.
  3. I'm a rp user, so I might be of some help. "it will work and then it will come up with a different file" Is your music file being renamed? Slayer mysteriously ends up being called Britney Spears? Also, are other functions working properly...can you transfer to md unit...does music play via the jukebox...etc...
  4. 12-17 seconds...first time I've heard about this. It won't stop me from getting a hi-md when the second generation is released, but nice to know before hand...
  5. have winners gone on to success in the music industry?
  6. yep, that is it. Mt877 was my first unit, it was the colored lights that caught my attention.
  7. The product at Minidisco.com is what you are looking for. The description says for "for NH series" which refers to the gumstick battery NH-14wm, not the hi-md model mz-nh1. You can find a better price than minidisco, just enter the product serial number into a search engine.
  8. (pov from community member) I've enjoyed reading Aeriyn’s posts. Her point of view shaped by her knowledge of electronics, headphones, all this stuff etc... has helped me gain knowledge of portable music devices and accessories. Without being a devil’s advocate, she has prompted me to assess my reasons for using md. I might as well admit now that I intend to diversify my portable music device collection with the purchase of a mini I-pod unit. I never would have considered this had it not been for her postings. In closing, I’d also like to say her sense of humour came through in many postings; something not everyone can accomplish when they try.
  9. thank you Nismo, thank you Aeriyn. Due to my paying attention to the forum, I have recently learned about the importance of headphones. Before this I would buy any earbud for around 20.00 usd to replace the prior pair.
  10. I'm reading headphone specs. at Crutchfield and Minidisco; what spec. tells us if the headphone is an easy to drive or hard to drive set?
  11. I've been reading posts that mention the size of headphone output i.e. 5mw, 18mw, 20mw... Is that telling me the 20mw is four times as loud as the 5mw? (perhaps this belongs in "phones" section rather than tech. topics)
  12. Black Sabbath "Black Sabbath" Dead Can Dance "Within the realm of the dying sun" Lorne Greene "On the Ponderosa: Greatest western classics" Parliament "Funkentelechy vs. the placebo syndrome" Tom Waits "Nighthawks at the diner"
  13. Thanks Nismo, thanks Skyther. I purchased the 888's this afternoon. "Earbuds don't really excel in sound or fit, but they are convenient." Skyther this statement dissipated the argument I was having regarding my purchase. Thanks again...
  14. I utilized the Skyther/Kurisu sticky to select my first pair of headphones and am happy with my purchase, the 66 eggos. I've used them for two days and I'm hearing the music anew without the discomfort to the outer ear I thought might accompany the wearing of headphones. Before this, I've always gone down to my local radio shack and bought a couple pairs of 20.00 usd pair of earbuds. I would now like to get a quality set of earbuds; not canal buds-maybe later. I can test out earbuds at two different stores I shop at, but the inside of a department store does not mimic the street-traffic and bicycle bells I encounter on my way to work. Hence, opinions from people who use their earbuds out-and-about would be much appreciated. I have been looking at the Audio-Technica ATH-CM7 earbuds. The housing looks sturdy, but with my prior earbuds it is the wiring that gave out rather than the speakers breaking. These earbuds cost 115.00 usd and I am wondering if non-canal earbuds are worth spending that much money on since I will be diluting the sound in exchange for being able to hear my environment? The Sony MDR-E888 earbud is much less in price than the cm7 so I am wondering if it is worth the added expense? I'm also interested in hearing about other ear buds that people think are quality. Also, if a set of earbuds are sold without the foam covers does that mean they are not intended to have foam covers on?
  15. 1. Yes, both n10's I owned. 2. Yes 3. Yes 4. No 5. No 6. No 7. Yes 8. Yes, Sony product support sucks. To much departmentalization and know one is willing to carry the ball; they want to transfer you to another department.
  16. I do now, thanks to your post of Friday, July 30, 2004 7:59 am...with the link to the download. Downloaded easy, started up easy, and I titled the tracks before writing this note.
  17. Glad I saw this posting...I was heading down to ishimaru denki this afternoon to pick up an NH1. I can do it tomorrow, stores aren't closed. You didn't specify which links you have tried so here are three. I was able to download from the European sight, no problem; I too, have English language XP with Japn. ime enabled. http://connect-europe.com/sonicstage http://mora.jp/help/download_ss.html http://www.sony.jp/support/p-audio/content...20_upgrade.html Enjoy your Christmas cake
  18. I upgraded from ss 2.0 to 2.3 yesterday. In 2.0 I pressed "transfer" button and I could look at what I had on my disc and title it via keyboard. I am unable to figure out how to do it with 2.3. I'm using mz-920.
  19. No need to press buttons to initiate recharge, unless you have the unit on; then you need to press "stop". With the unit off, stick it in the charging cradle and the three lights should come on in sequence from left to right, this will continue for the duration of the charge. When the lights stop flashing, the battery is fully charged. If you are not getting the lights, recheck the connection between the powercord and cradle because the L-shape connector sometimes works itself loose when you put the md unit into the cradle. Not to be like a mother, but to cover all bases; the negative end of the gumstick goes into the recorder first. Also, once a month you should open the battery slot and brush off the positive end of the battery. I find that lint has a way of working itself into the battery slot.
  20. aye vova You've got me curious to try out ss. Do you have any problems with the program? Realp. has given me only one problem, it doesn't like working with recorded files from the British label, Hed Kandi. Also RP has not released driver update to run hi-md, so actually two problems. I realize that people who have ss run trouble-free are probably not going to post as much as people who are having trouble with ss. How is ss for you?
  21. Using a 74 minute md SP is 74 minutes LP2 148 minutes (2 hrs and 28 min) LP4 296 minutes (4 hrs and 56 min) Using an 80 minute md SP is 80 minutes LP2 is 160 minutes (2hrs and 40 min) LP4 is 320 minutes (5 hrs and 20 min) My experience is that 74/80 SP is actually 73.5/79.5 minutes and that ratio holds when recording in LP2 and LP4.
  22. thanks for the info, mr. toad I did/do save my music using Real System Media. I haven't ever had the problems vova has with realplayer. Or course, I've always used realplayer so I have nothing to compare it to.
  23. You can find the same unit new on eBay for 150.00 usd. So if you are shopping around....
  24. aye Dave Everybody knows Urayasu...it's the home of the Disney resort. Hopefully one of the moderators will read this thread and give a more informed answer. I don't know if your friends player with the optical out will be able to read a disc you have recorded on the 920 and convert it to an optical signal. So far, Sony has made the md to be backward compatible but not forward compatible. Hence, your recording in DSP type S may be an alien language to the optical reader/converter of your friends md unit with optical out. If you can get an optical upload, I'd like to know so I can start searchin' the 2nd hand shops to find me one of those optical out units.
