  1. Yes, the MT15 came out in 1999, about a couple of years before the MDLP long play modes saw the light. That makes it something of a venerable antique (in MD terms), and you should at least have mono mode to double your recording time... For your info (times on a standard 80 minute blank) (on pre-MDLP machines) SP = highest quality for standard MD, 80 mins per disk Mono = same quality as SP, but in mono (obviously), 160 mins (additionally, on MDLP machines): LP2 = reduced (but listenable) quality to SP, 160 mins LP4 = highly reduced quality compared to SP, 320 mins
  2. Hi-MD units can digitally transfer to PC via USB, that is, it's possible though a tad fiddly (for us non-computer types). Check under the Hi-MD forum for details (it's a work-around)... Hi-MD also offers linear PCM recording along with various compression modes, so yes the quality can be higher than standard MD...
  3. I've made quite a few CD-RW's "For audio use only" (ie. made on a CD recordable deck), and my D40 has never been able to play any of those CD-RW's. I don't know if computer CD-RW's are any different, or in any case some manufacturers may make easier to read CD-RWs than others, anyway I've read a number of posts claiming that their D40's will play CD-RW's, so maybe so. If you send me a CD-RW, I'll be happy to try it out on my D40 (I don't have a computer CD burner to make my own)... Alternatively, if you can get the MXD-D400 (you'll have to look on the net), that plays CD-RWs. Or a modern CD/MD mini or micro hi-fi setup will do it, for example my CMT-M333NT can copy my CD-RW's (along with the CD-Text)...
  4. As far as I know, if you select shuffle from play mode whilst the group function is on, the 'randomisation' is on the group currently selected. If group mode is off, then all tracks are 'randomly' played. However the shuffle mode is pretty poor on Sonys, and wouldn't surprise me if strange results occur...
  5. Yep, but we get these Euro-spec (3 + 3) mW models, though that's not too bad. I guess you've got (5 + 5) mW, but no line/optical in? I've tried the PCM recording (on a standard disk) and it knocked me sideways...
  6. I bought an NH600 last week in London, though. And still can't get a Hi-MD disk...
