  1. So has anyone else had problem with the jog wheel on the MZ-NHF800? The other day I realise that my jog wheel would only work it I pushed down on the bottom section. So... it still kind of works, but is effectively broken. Anyone have any experience with this or do I have to go to a service center? Rowan
  2. Has anyone retryed there testing with Sonic Stage 3.2? I gonna give it a try tonight. I really hope it's just a software bug 'cause I think my warranty just lapsed... Rowan

    Why Sony? WHY??

I guess I'm just miffed that I've got just one shot at digital transfer. After that it analog/realtime. I think that's kind of extreme for a mic recording.

    Why Sony? WHY??

Well, that argument only holds up if you assume that everyone who wants the copy protection lifted is going to use it illegally. I use mine to record my own performances and rehearsals. Is sony protecting me from pirating my own intellectual property? Sure, I will concede that alot of people do it. But not everyone. And if there are 10 products with out restrictive copy protection and 1 with, in the end, there will probably only be 9. I think we should be prepared to see MD's go the way of the BetaMax.
  5. You should be able to. This should also be a way for people to reclaim "orphand" oma's.
  6. Alernately, you could get a mono-to-stereo jack converter from Radio Shack in the mean time and save up for a very nice mic later...
  7. So that seems to indicate that the 'invisible area' can't be touched by even a WinXP OS format. Has anyone tried a format with a Linux disto?
  8. Sony thinks that breaking the wave file at 650 mb is doing us a favor! It's the EXACT same reason that we have all this DRM crap in the first place. The have underestimated the intelligence of the people who buy their products. "Better break the files at 650 or we're gonna get a flood of tech support emails asking why they can't get a 1 gig wave on to a 74 min audio disc." :whatever: The DRM thing doesn't even consider musicians and archivest. All they can see are pirates and bootleggers so the cripple their own products to keep them from being used for their original purpose. Right now, their ONLY other goal after DRM is beating Apple at the Ipod game. In that the HiMD are useless... They will take the front to harddrive players for the reason of capacity. HiMD 1 gig disc can't compete with a 60 gig Ipod. "But you can buy more discs and have infinity storage possiblity!" But the average consumer would rather have convience. "All my MP3 are in one place now! I just dumped them all to my Ipod and I take it where ever I go!" And the average consumer doesn't care about the ability to record direct from an analog source either. We represent a fairly small group of audio enthusiast and professional who want an inexpensive portable medium. If that were not the case then I think items like the IRiver and Archos drives would be more popular, even though they lack the mic preamps that make the MD and HiMD so cool for us. I think the sad truth is that Sony still sees MD/HiMD as a red-headed stepchild, even more so since they declared war on Apple. And because its not the obvious weapon against them, the fabled "Ipod Killer" you can expect any thing MD to remain on the back burner.
  9. So does the download for a stand-alone program, or does it add onto SS. And if it is an add-on, did they change anything else? Is there anyway to monitor what it's doing during a convertion to figure out ways to smooth HiMDRender's own process?
  10. I noticed in your review you talked about backing up a recording before you upload with Sonic Stage. You have the option of using your USB cable as a direct link to you computer to play back the file through, thus skipping a purely analog cable AND your sound card for a cleaner record. All you do is open Sonic Stage, connect your HiMD, go to the transfer window and select the files you want to backup. Start your wave recording program, then press the play button in the Sonic Stage transfer window. I hesitate to say this is a digital recording, 'cause I don't know if it's being decoded on the md or on the computer. But like I said, at least you're skipping the sound card input. Cheers!
  11. Short of turning down the volume, is there any way to turn off the sound while rendering? It's not a big problem, but it caught me by suprise the first time I used the program. Thanx,
  12. Hey Yal, I'm finally unlurking! I have a question for you MarC: Has there been any luck using HiMDRenderer to acess oma fils will they are still on the MD? This could circumvent the whole issue of uploads getting trashed and you'd still have the option of uploading latter since you haven't use your ONE ( ) upload yet. Thanx for all the hard work you have done, you are a hero to this community! Rowan
