I have managed to destroy my NH1 cradle while travelling. Are there any other alternatives to the standard issue cradle?
-
I cant really tell.... I just wake up and hazily detach it from the cradle. I dont leave it overnight anymore either. The sound has only occurred when I have left it in the cradle for a long period of time, well after it has finished charging. Strange! I just realised that the topic title is kinda misleading.... rather, strange noise after finished charging.
-
I tried searching for this but couldnt find any info.... A few times when I have left my NH1 charging overnight it has woken me up with a high pitched whining sound. It doesnt seem to have caused any problems (apart from waking me up). Does this happen to anyone else, or does anyone know why it makes this sound?

Eh? I am serious, I am thanking you for your help (: I am using the Japanese version of SS and I only figured out the bare bones of using it, so I did not take time to translate features not directly related to transferring files to and form the MD.
-
Ah thanks a lot. Very helpful.

I want to burn all my imported SS files onto DVD's because I have to return my computer to its owner. The way SS stores files is kinda messy.... There are some files in folders in SonicStage>Packages Many imported files are in SonicStage>Packages>Optimised files, but these are not in their own subdirectories. If I burn the whole lot, and later install SS onto another system and drop all the files in, will they show up in the correct order? Is there a reference file that SS uses to categorise the files that I should also burn? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Foobar2000 is a free audio player for Windows. It has a no bells and whistles interface, but it can play back flac files without decoding. Very handy. -
Running the batteries flat is better for NiCad batteries, but as far as I am aware, this applies only to NiCad batteries. Lead acid batteries, for examlpe, will be damaged if they are run flat. Im not sure for lithium batteries really, but someone else said at least 30% charge is better, and Ive read that somewhere else too.

I do this regularly, no problems here.

I recently bought some Sony Nudex plugs, very cheap. I am not too fussy with earbuds, but I compared quite a few different earbuds, from Sonys to Audio Technica Titanium sticks. I bought the Nudexs because of the bass (I like listening to funk and acid jazz a lot) and Im really happy with them. Whenever Im not out and about I use Sennheiser HD590 headphones, and Mackie HR824 monitors.

"Creative" microphone placements or constructions?

I am looking at buying some binaurals because of the decent price/performance ratio. However, I do quite a bit of music production and it would be nice to have something more useful. Mono compatibility is important for me. I am wondering if people here have set up binaurals in a different configuration (dex otaku mentioned a coincident pattern)? Would I better off buying stealth cardioids? -
Ah thank you! Going a step further, is there any way to convert several folders or do I have to do it one at a time?

I am living abroad long term at the moment, and before I left I converted many of my CDs to mp3 for portability. I was using them in a Discman that could play back mp3s. Now that I have bought a HiMD player, Im shifting most of my music over. This is such a slow process. Is there any way to convert mp3s to the file format used? Im hoping there is a way to convert without having the player connected. That way I could just leave the computer converting while I go out. At the moment the player needs to be plugged in for the long conversion process. Im using a Japanese version of SS and I can only read just enough Japanese to use it in a fairly basic manner.

Thanks for replying. I couldnt find Sound Professionals mics for $25 on ebay... not available anymore? I got some good info at this site: http://www.transom.org/tools/recording_int...nes.jtowne.html I know there is plenty of info on the net and its not hard to find, but I found this article interesting too. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_artic...omictechs2.html

Whenever I have used a pair of mics for stereo recording in studios, I have always observed the 3:1 ratio when using spaced pairs. However, I've never known why exactly having a distance of less than 3:1 between the mics from the sound source causes phase cancellation. Anyway, I am unsure as to why binaural mics are rarely (I assume) given the same 3:1 consideration. Can someone give me a definitive answer? Im about to buy some binaurals myself, for recording music lessons. Im considering Giant Squids or Core Sound LCSB.
