It doesn't help you any, but I am interested to see that the European warranty is different - here are the terms Over this side of the pond, we are always complainin' that everything in the US is cheaper. Perhaps this goes a small way to explaing the difference??

yes, I've done this and you can transport MP3's between different computers. On my rig, if I plug in my HiMD without starting sonicstage, the PC sees the MD as a removeable drive. I just drag and drop as with any other drive. You obviously can't play the files through the MD that you have loaded this way, but interestingly you *can* play the files (using WMP or whatever) *from* the MD over the USB without actually uploading them back to a PC.

I have an NH900. Can I use a rechargeable AA in the separate "dry battery" case or must it be an alkaline non-rechargeable. Maaszy

Can you elaborate please - I haven't taken the plunge with HiMD yet -still reading. Are you saying that you can take a recording you have made on HiMD and transfer to the PC in realtime *digitally* thru the USB. Can you explain how this is done without using SS many thanks Maaszy

Not sure which version of sonicstage you have - I don't yet have a MD player but ave downloaded 2.3 from sony to have a play withe the software. This version will allow you to load wav, mp3, wma and oma files to "create audio CD". If you can play from your PC you should be able to simply create an audio CD. Alternatively you could do a real-time recording from the line-out on your PC

I am not sure the 700 has a "line" out, but you can certainly use the headphones out - the difference is just how "hot" the signal is presented - headphones being a hotter signal than a line out. On your soundcard you are best advised to use the line in, not the mic in - the pre-amps on the mic-in will add noise and are in any case designed for the weak signal from a mic, not the hot signal from a headphone output. I suggest that you set the recording level on your soundcard mixer to about 3/4 and then adjust the volume of your MD on play back so the headphone signal presents a reasonable signal level in your soundcard recording software. You will need some sort of recording software - you can use windows basic recorder or google up audacity for a freebie wave editor/recorder hth

Thanks - think I'm beginning to understand all the ins and outs having been doing some more reading - I've also downloaded sonicstage to get a feel for this before I commit to a HiMD player. It isn't as bad as I expected reading other posts

Hi I'm looking at the HiMD format as an alternative to MP3 players because the recording function is also useful to me. I have a number of MP3s on my PC from various sources. Will I be able to load these on to HiMD with no restriction? I realise they will get converted to ATRAC during the download to MD. I presume the original MP3 file is unaffected. Also, can someone explain the limitation for uploading recorded audio to PC. Can you only do it once? Sorry if these questions have been asked before. Maaszy
