Awesome stuff! Just what a shame about the it's remote dependance and lack of DCin. Seams it has the same drawbacks as the NH1 plus one more... lack of three-line remote.
-
Sorry, my bad. It's just the buttons on the side looked a lot like track skip to me. Yeah, and it would be a lot cooler if that base thing had a minijack, so you could plug in anything.
-
Too bad they come with thier own mp3 player. Otherwise, Awesome!!!

Has anyone tried recording with Cowon HDD and flash players? I was looking into them as an alternative for my less important recordings. Of course, I would need a pre-amp to use external mics.

I can't seem to import CDs to SS in 352 either. So what's the only option? ATRAC Lossless? 352 looks so "after-thought-ish" to me. AAL isn't available in 352... Simple Burner doesn't support it... Can't import CDs in 352...
-
I can't seem to find it. Is it possible or do I have to import the CD to SS, to convert it to 352kbps?

How about Hi-SP+? But, why do we really need a name? I mean, we don't have one for 48k ATRAC+... But it could be something like Hi-LP-...

NEW: Sony Hi-MD Walkman Players - MZ-EH70 and MZ-EH50
migt replied to betamaxDATminidisc's topic in News
Is it just me, or the new players look "iPod-ish"? Hope Sony releases some new recorders, soon, with mp3. -
Thanks a lot, guys. I'm very pleased that the staff chose my design as the winner. I would like to congratulate everyone for their entries, as they were very, very cool. Thanks.

I feel betrayed. It's a very sad day for all MD fans. I just hope some other company will "adopt" and further develop MD. All what's left to do is wait, wait, until my NH1 dies a slow and painful (for me) death. In reality, MD is light years ahead of competition, if you could even call it that, at least for pro and semi-pro uses. Basically, MD is dieing before it reached maturity, before the days of glory it deserves without a doubt. R.I.P.

How to build a Stereo Microphone and Battery Box
migt replied to greenmachine's topic in Live Recording
Thanks a lot, greenmachine. I just have one question. Can I use the battery module with the Microphone Madness MM-MCSM-4 mic? -
I use 48k a lot for speech and audiobooks. Sometimes, I just use HiLP if the source quality is really bad, so transcoding doesn't affect it so much.
-
BTW, I have a question that has been bothering me for quiet a while. HDDs are delicate stuff, so what happens when you drop a HDD player? Or does it have some special protection stuff?
-
I could buy 60, 80 ,or even 150 Hi-MD, if I need to. Isn't that a real fact? Plus, I can sort recordings, without the risk of having everything wiped out at the same time. Hi-Sp sounds very good to my ears, and I preffer it to most mp3. Maybe some of the peaople who own HDD players could answer me this question: can you listen all 60G in one session? One (or two, at most) Hi-MDs are enough for me for several days.

The truth is, most people care more for the price tag more than for the sound quality. I find HDD player (and flash even more so) a compleatly limited format. I mean, 60 GB is not that much, it's only ~90 hours in wav, and I'm not very fond of using 128kbps mp3. One thing I heard from a guy just after I bought my MZ-NH1 last year, almost made me cry. He looks at it, with the pitifull look you normally give the $20 64MB flash players, and says: "Oh, why did you buy that, you should've bought an i-POD. It's so good, I can put over 10,000 song in it, and it sounds better than CD-Quality". Just how I'm I supposed to explain to a person who believes so blindly in commercials, that he can't distiguish between a "only for subway or bus" player and a top-of-the-line Hi-MD?
-
that's playback, right? And what about rec? powering a pro mic? and finally, how good a preamp may be, that fits in a "deck of cards" sized unit? You see, every portable unit has it's pros and cons, and you can start saying that Hi-MD can't do many of those, but: 1) I didn't pay $500 plus media for my MZ-NH1. 2) My MZ-NH1 with a Microphone Madness two-point mic give me satisfying enough results, and excellent price-to-quality ratio.

Third party add-ons would be available for both the cradle connection and the add-on card slot for more portable stuff.

MZ-HAV1 [attachmentid=862] [attachmentid=863] MZ-HAV1 on cradle [attachmentid=864] MZ-HAV1 Hi-MD Portable Audio-Video Recorder • 3.5” 16:9 Color LCD Display • 9-Way Navigation Joystick • SD/MMC/Add-on Slot • Backup Single-line Backlit LCD • One-handed operation with either hand • USB 2.0 and AC connection on unit • Slot-type disc loader • Full Drag and Drop • Adjustable stand (15º, 35º , 50º), which folds up into the unit • 7-Band EQ. User EQs can be stored on either the unit (5), the MD, or and SD/MMC card. • Cradle with USB 2.0, Firewire, Detachable speakers, and AC • Basic PIM (Personal Information Manager) Main LCD Display may work in both in 16:9, 4:3, and 4:3 with sidebar modes. After a user-set amount of time, the main LCD turns off and the Secondary (Backup) LCD starts displaying the track info. The 9-Way joystick allows easy navigation of the menus. The SD/MMC/Add-on slot provides easy transfer of files from cameras, mp3 players, PDAs, and camcorders to Hi-MD. Additionally, it fits the Hi-MD Add-on cards, which may add additional functions, codecs, and possibilities (such as a camera, for example). The bottom of the unit has a proprietary port which connects to the cradle. The advantage of the proprietary cradle port, is that while providing all inputs and outputs plus Firewire, it leaves most of the on unit connections open. Supported Codecs: -----On unit: • ATRAC 3+ (Rec/Play) • ATRAC 3 (Play Only) • MP3 (Rec/Play) • PCM (Rec/Play) • MPEG4 (Rec/Play) • JPEG (View) • TXT (View) • PDF (View) -----As Add-on Cards: • ATRAC 3 (Rec)(included with unit) • MPEG1/2 (Rec/Play) • OGG Vorbis (Rec/Play) • Flac (Rec/Play) • AVI (Rec/Play) • JAVA • 3.0MP Camera • Bluetooth • And more --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Textured Version (Magnesium): [attachmentid=866] Finally got the time to (almost) finish texturing. Buttons aren't fully textured so you can't see which is which. The button layout is the following: /----!-----\ You get to the menu by pushing the joystick in. /_FR_!_FF_ \ \ PL / \ ST / \ \ / / \___!___/

I'm not so sure touchscreen is such a good idea. It adds bulk and you would have to put it on hold every time you put it in your backpack. And, what for?
-
the revolution 7.1 doesn.t have a digital in, right?
-
Thanks NtN. I'll try to get 3.0. But what about the weird noise instead of the music there was supposed to be? That happened even before I connected my Nh-1. Besides I checked again, and I CAN see the tracks when I use SS, but it crashes when I try to play ant of them, and doesn't do anything when I try to download.
-
2.1. But I'm not sure the problem is only with Sonicstage. I have downloaded stuff before and it worked.
-
Besides, the more GB a disc has, the cheaper it is. 1GB costs $7, so maybe 5GB will cost about $30. Plus, it would be cool if sony came up with a minidisc with a 3.5" color screen, so we can watch movies on it.

Can anyone recommend me a PC Sound Card, with digital I/O (preferably optical), 24/96, 7.1? What I got mow is a SB live! Platinum, but it just isn't enough anymore. Thanks
