  1. I'm sorry I still dont quite get this. I have a load of FLAC files on my computer that I got from ripping my CDs. To get them onto MDs (MZ-RH10) I use dbPower AMP Music Converter to convert them to WAVs which I then import in Sonicstage. I then would have thought that I could use the transfer button to send these to the MD as ATRAC Files (I either use 256 or 356kbps). It does this but ADDS COPY PROTECTION (can be transferred to the original computer only... ARRGHHH). I then try what was said above, I convert the WAVs in this folder (I have no library of ATRAC Files; I convert, transfer and then delete the WAVs and converted files - Oh if only Sonicstage could use FLACs) to ATRACs using the computer first since this gives me the option of not having copy protection. This, annoyingly, gives me 2 file types for each file (WAV and ATRAC) and the automatic seems to be WAV. The only way I can see to get round this is to delete all the files from my library and reimport the ATRACs from the "Package" folder. I right click on each file and select properties and it says for copy protection "None". Bingo! Transfer "as is" to the MD and I have DRM free MDs. Except, of course, I dont because Sonicstage is a piece of crap! I right click on the newly transferred file and it says "Can be transferred to the original computer" rather than any computer. THIS IS SO ANNOYING! What can I do???
  2. Bah, if they really are sorry then they should offer a firmware upgrade for the RH10
  3. Yes, but just to clarify: Will MDs that had mp3's transferred on to them via the RH10 play the mp3s better in the RH1?
  4. Yeah I mean transferred mp3s. The crippling process is in the playback not the transfer then .... so my RH10 transferred mp3 mds will sound better in a RH1?
  5. Is the crippled mp3 a playback issue or a recording issue? I wonder because I have recorded a lot of mp3 MDs with my RH10 and they sound pretty shitty but will these same MDs sound ok in the R1 or any subsequent model should I upgrade?
  6. ok thanks but that means you'd essentially have to have two copies of MD - 1 to listen to the music and 1 to transfer it while you can listen to and transfer with the same CD. What I want is to have playable music on my MDs and then delete the original from my HD, if I wanted it back on any of my computers I could just transfer from my music MD but it doesnt look like this is possible without utilising twice as much space. Infact couldn't the technique you described have been used with any SS version? I really dont see the bonus of SS3.2 for MD users.
  7. well thanks for that kyle, I did what you said with the exception of not restoring the library meaning I have no files in my library in the newly installed sonicstage. I then try to import a CD to my library and that works OK. I then transfer it to MD and STILL get the rights info "Can be transferred to the original computer" rather than any computer. ARRGHHH! I then delete my library (which justs consists of that CD) and then attempt to put a track form the MD to the computer but it says "Tracks that do not exist in My Library are selected, do you want to delete the specified tracks form the device". Of course I press no! What is wrong with this, why is this software so inpenetrable, infuriating and useless (compaed to my mate's Iriver for example which has drap and drop windows and imports winamp playlists). Is the problem really that proper MD transfer is still not possible, when I right click on the info for files in my library that have been transferred from CD it says "Remaining transfer count - Unlimted, Remaining ATRAC CD transfer count - unlimited, Remaining audio CD transfer count - unlimited" it doesnt mention MD transfer, you guys all seem to be talking about transferring tracks to DVD/CD from one computer and then from that DVD/CD to another computer but has anyone done it with a MD? The hours Ive wasted on this now are no joke! Oh yeah and someone please acknowledge zoe too, she seems a little left out !
  8. Hi, I downloaded SS3.2 today after previously using SS3.1. It is my understanding that the new version allows .oma files to be transferred between computers yet it doesn't even work on MY OWN computer! To elaborate, I ripped one CD to 255kb ATRAC3+ on my HD. I then clicked on the album in my library and pressed the transfer button to my HiMD. I made sure that the CD ripping settings did not have DRM. I then tried doing a CD->MD transfer directly using Simple Burner (assuming that SB now does not apply DRM). So these files should now transfer unlimted times to any computer with SS3.2, right? However when I right click on them (in the Hi-MD box) it says "Can be transferred to the original computer" in both cases, surely it should say can be transferred to ANY computer? Now, when I click the left arrow for the files recorded in SB it says "the selected track originated on another computer" (which is obviously wrong!). When I transfer the files recorded in SS they transfer but they also get deleted from my MD even though on the "Advanced Transfer Settings" I have selected "Leave the tracks in the Disc" What's going on?!!!
  9. have sent it off to sony in dublin. hopefully theyll fix it for free and ignore the "only valid in japan" bit of the warranty.....
  10. well I managed to take the unit apart, seems the back end of the disc carriage was damaged - probably from pushign it in too hard. But the only way to get the disc in was to push hard, aarggh. When I put a disk in now the thing just keeps whirring and doesnt settle (plus it wont eject and I have to dismantle again). anyhow looks like ill have to order another carriage unit (how this can be done in limerick I don't know). Another prob I had after dismantling the unit is that the OLED is off now, I can see where the cable connects between the top section and the lower section...... If anyone's interested how the unit looks underneath I can take some pics.... I am guessing that in the future (if I ever fix it!) when I want to use my old maxell disks it will be best to just pull the plastic shutter completely off before putting it in the unit (they come off and on pretty easy without damage, unlike the metal ones).
  11. yes but i think it is a problem using european maxell disks with japanese rh10s. the maxells worked fine in my other earlier model (until it got stolen). local sony tech services are non existent in limerick, if i knew how to disassemble the unit id do it myself but I can only get a few screws out. cant seem to find a service manual online anywhere either.
  12. a damn maxell disk has got stuck in my brand new rh10 i imported from japan. now the unit is useless. unfortunately your tip doesnt seem to work could you elaborate a bit more?
  13. I recently got an MZ RH10 delivered to me in Ireland from ebay (from Japan). The unit was going fine until I found problems inserting my old maxell minidiscs (of which I have a few hundred). They required a bit of a push to get in. Well maybe I pushed one in a bit too much as now its stuck and I cant get the bloody thing out and my $300, one week old unit is now useless. I tried to open the unit but cant seem to get all the screws out and pulling the disc with tweezers doesnt help either. Looks like the warranty is only valid in Japan. Needless to say I am very pissed off.... If anyone has any suggestions theyd be much appreciated
  14. if only there were a hack to get decent sound levels and bypass those eurocrats
  15. Thanks kurisu, although that BC-7HT costs 50 bucks. A problem seems to be paying for delivery for US units to the UK ($94 for Datavision). You guys may be interested to hear that Cheap Electricals has the MZRH10 for £160 including VAT and delivery. Their website looks a little amateurish though so I'm not sure whether it's safe ordering from them.. http://www.cheapelectricals.co.uk
