Thanks a lot for your information! Yeah, i agree it's a nice price...Wich scares me. I mean, if the thing is they include goodies with the unit...Why do they label the unit differently? Wouldn't be more common-sense to label it "RH1-extra pack" or something like that? Can it upload songs to the computer freely? Even those normal oldies SP -LP2 ones? Does it support mp3 natively? It sounds so weird... Sorry, i've just checked the table you said....So I guess u're right...But I still feel a little bit uncomfty... I mean, it's not that i don't believe you...But it's a HiMD I never heard of. It doesn't even show up in the minidisc.org list page... Does anybody else know about this unit? (maybe if more people says "it's alright it's just the same" I'll dare...) I had a bad experience with an NH600D unit...I didn't notice that "D" behind when I bought it. And it was the american capped version That unit is no more. Oddly enough, my MZ-N510 still works as the first day (but it's a total wreckage, someday the main door will fall off). So I'd like to buy a one that is GOOD quality. Something that lasts. Like that poor N510. O

Hi, i just saw this page and i got confused: What's the mzm200 model? Never heard of it. Don't see any special difference with the RH1, although it's quite expensiver and seems to not include remote. So why that price? Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, i'm asking this, since it's starting to be a pain in the ass to find an "affordable" RH1. I've found some pricing around 400€, and on ebay a crazy guy selling one for 2000€. I mean, i want a brand new RH1, but as cheap as possible...if possible. If it's somewhere in Europe, that'd be lovely (for shipping costs). It's starting to be pretty hard for me to find one. I live in Madrid, but its really weird to go to sony stores and being told "they don't ship them here in spain". I saw one in a small shop, but the shop dealer was talking of 450€. I could buy 2 ipods for that price (and come back home with money in the pocket)! I prefer sony for all the reasons you know, but I'm not THAT mad...Any tip? Any cool online shop? Thank you guys!

Hi. I mean, from Sonicstage, transferring the .ogg files without the sidestep of converting the file to wav, then importing, then transferring...Since it works with the standard directshow filter, is there any way to fake it as an mp3 so the directshow filter reads it and transfers it? I think the filter i have reads both formats, and some more...It's the ffdshow audio filter. Thank you guys!

Well i have this unit (yeah, i know, the most limited HiMD unit ever!). I was wondering if it was possible to charge the batteries through the usb cable... I mean, i have standard AA Ni-MH rechargable batteries, and somewhen i ran out of them. I had a computer around, but not my charger...Is there any chance of plugin' the Minidisc Player to the computer to charge the batteries? Thanks!

You never go to sleep without learning a new thing...Thanks, dex!

Sonicstage v1.5 is by far the worst ever SS i ever tried. So damn buggy, restarting the database...It was a pain in the ass! Don't dare to try this. Audio quality converting to atrac3 is worst. It hangs randomly. It doesn't let you transfer songs randomnly. You're only allowed to transfer a song three times. With no doubt, the worst of all them! You rather try SS3.4. I would follow The Low Volta's tips, since i agree with him completely. I use Cool Edit instead of audacity, but i do pretty much the same. May the luck be with u...

A440 is right...Any audio editing program has this easy option: Audio normalization. U pick that one, choose 100% if it asks something, and there u go, the song sounding at full volume!
-
The way I do: You create a playlist file. With winamp for example. Then you drop the playlist standalone into sonicstage. Yeah, all the songs will show separately, on their artist letter. But you'll have a pink playlist (usually close to the bottom) with the songs exactly in the order u had chosen.

Atrac3plus @128kbps?? Can a HiMD unit play that? Please reply this, since i'd like something better than the low 64kbps, without being as big in size as the 192kbps atrac3plus...And atrac3 LP2 isn't a really good idea since it sounds for me almost the same as Atrac3Plus@64kbps...

Hi, I just pressed the "transfer to my library" button on a HiMD track i wasn't sure of uploading either with my laptop or my desktop computer. It seems it was in the other one, since it asked me to add the song to my library. Then it asked me to check with the CD database, and then the option to convert it to a WAV file...Is there some news on this term guys? I thought u weren't allowed to transfer songs to any computer other than the original one... BTW, i use SS v3.4

Old discs of 80 reformatted to HiMD...
timonoj replied to timonoj's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Well, i created the wav files yet again (they come from ogg files, wich SS doesn't like), and started the proccess...Erased the songs from the MD and now everything went alright, now i have 120MB free -
Well i formatted an old 80' disc to the new HiMD format, so it says now i have something like 288MB...I started copying songs...I fill it a little bit, that's, i still have another 180MB free. I try to copy 2 more cds at 64kbps (it should be room for free, for sure!) but it says some of the songs won't be copied because there is no free space (not any other problem with rights, at this point, those are wav files!), just copies 3 songs, that makes around 15mins of music@64kbps...and then says that i've just 640KB left on the disc! What's going on here??

U can also choose winamp, wich i think has mp4 codec installed as default, then you can choose the diskwriter output plugin (also installed by default) and i would recommend to create a .wav file, since no recompression is made this way. Dbpoweramp is pretty much the same, but i suggest just a wav file, instead of mp3

Discovered a way to remaster my CDs
timonoj replied to Sony_Fan's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Hehehee, right u are...Didn't want to be rude... Just suggesting a "better" way. Of course everybody can choose their own way! (i should have added that to my last post...) -

Well, rayzray, i have to desagree with you. Even if your analog audio system is one of the bests, it always add a very little (but it's there) analog noise, produced by magnetic redundancies around all the cables and circuits involved. Since the source is a CD, wich IS ALREADY digital, if you transfer to your computer, no extra noise is added. 0 in the CD means 0 in the computer, and 1 means 1. No transfer error is possible (maybe it is, but u can detect it and correct it), then you proccess it (here the resulting quality relies TOTALLY on the editing program capacities), and then you record back to a new CD. The audio quality will remain the same. If we were talking about a vinyl, then it would be a different tale (u need an analog cable for transferring, and the sound card's capturing quality gets directly involved) but since we were talking about remastering CDs, i think the best way is digital. -

Good point, KrazyIvan, i think that's the best way. However sometimes u don't realize that u're being rude... -

I vote for the CD to WAV, normalization (the old Cool Edit Pro also does it, in batch mode, for a list of songs), then reburn... -
Well the things is the bug happens with the only three HiMD that I have, wich just came in the same package I bought 2nd hand on ebay (so no dealer thing). Apart from those ones, i just have old MDs. I reformatted some of them to the HiMD format, so i get 280MB (i think) instead of 160MB, and they work fine. So the only thing i can say is that it's not a decoder bug. I still have to decide wether it's a disc problem, or a problem with the laser beam, just when reading the 1GB discs surface. Well, for formatting with windows, on the file explorer, u go to the removable drive that shows up when u connect your unit, right click on it, and then format...I'm not pretty sure wether it's FAT16 or FAT32 the right option, I think it first was on FAT16, since it was pre-selected, but i swapped to FAT32. It took some seconds, and then when I loaded SS, i were told to reinitialise the the disc, so i did...And that's all! However, for me, it keeps the bugging thing about some silences on certain songs. Again, that's just with the 1GB discs...
-
Thanks for the offering since i live in europe...But i managed to format it through the windows file explorer. (it wasn't available the option for NTFS, weird). Anyway, i have a HiMD back to work. I wonder if it still has the problem with some parts of the surface (wich records with no problem, but then cannot play , just plays silence). That happens just to some songs, the silence happen just in certain parts of the song...

Lovely, then i'm completely screwed, im afraid. My unit is a MZ NH600D, that D means that it just plays, but it's not record capable, just through the usb input. I can't edit, move nor erase any song withing the disc using the MD's menu...

Yesterday I installed the new SS3.4, since i reformatted my computer, and i wanted to upload some songs to my nh600d unit. I bought it on ebay (2nd hand) and from the beginning has been giving me some trouble when reading the hi md that were included on the pack. I didn't buy any HiMD extra media, since the box came with 3 of them. I have a bunch of old 160MB MDs, wich the unit read(and records) with no problem at all. But with the HiMD, it takes too long to read when connected, and when playing, certain songs give me problems. I think it's associated to the physical place where the songs are stored in the disc. But I'm not sure. Anyway. Yesterday i recorded a few songs, and then the whole thing went wrong. After uploading and disconnecting the unit, it started to say "CANNOT PLAY NOR RECORD MEDIA", and there was nothing else i could do. I tried to format the disc using SS, it gave me one of those lovely windows fatal errors (illegal operation), and finally another (lovely) BSOD. I tried on another computer with SS3.2, with little success...Is there anything i can do to save this disc? Do you know wether it's the unit or the HiMD, the ones wich are wrong? (all the HiMD give me these reading problems, but finally one just got completely messed). Sorry for this big text pack. Thanks!

Well, I just post here to see if somebody has any idea about it, since I have just the same problem, and its really annoying me...That's happening to me since SS1.5! I've been trying to get any clue since then, and I just found nothing...The songs had nothing to do between themselves: some of them were in VBR, some of them in CBR, some others @196kbps and above, some just 128 or even 112....When the thing goes really bad i just convert it to .wav and it shuts up about the "unable to transfer" bloody error...But i find so annoying to convert every single file to wav just for avoiding errors....
-
Ok, the same goes for me... But at 64kbps. I also noticed that artifact from what it seems to be another song. Just happened once, though. I think i preferred 3.2, is there any way to redownload it? Thanks!

Even easier: Your winamp player can do the same as well...On preferences, output plugins, choose Nullsoft Disk Writer Plug-In, and then choose format-destination on the config tab. Then, instead of playing the music on your speakers, it will record it with the chosen codec, on the chosen folder in your hard drive. For others like mp3 encoding, I don't know how good does it behave(so I use Cool Edit), but for wav encoding you don't need something really cool...It's just raw data!
