  1. Yeah, I use an aftermarket USB cable, made by Monster Cable. Works great. The one that came with my RH910 was too damn short. For my on-the-go stuff, I use a ZipLinq, a neat, expandable USB cable.
  2. I can set it to do this, but only till the next time the unit is turned off. I'd prefer to keep it set that way permanently. How do I do this?
  3. Well, I was in the Sony Store here in Winnipeg, Canada and the salesman noticed i had my RH910 with me (it's never far from my side) and he was surprised that I'd already got one as he told me that there were people waiting for several months with units on backorder. Apparantly, they're quite hot sellers here. Even with no little to no adverts Sony seems to be holding it's own in the marketplace.
  4. Okay. So after MDAC and all that other crap it STILL doesn't work. Windows installs it as a Hi-MD, and as far as Windows as concerned it works. The Simple Burner icon in ste system tray even changes from grey to red when it's plugged in, but when I run the program, it won't access the MD. SonicStage is the same way. Windows knows it's connected, but neither program will recognize it. My only recourse may be to reinstall Windows. Dammit, I'm getting sick of these same albums. I need the advice of the most cunning experts on this one.
  5. Too late for that. It was already all over once I uninstalled it the first time. I don't know what to do from here.
  6. So wait, in what order should I use MDAC in the repair process? Like uninstall SS, then use MDAC then reinstall?
  7. I guess the title says it all. What had happened was I was running a different Windows theme (skin) which caused SS to not display properly. Which of course, I didn't know at the time. I thought the program had screwed up (it hadn't). It had been working flawlessly till that point. So, I performed the full uninstall/reinstall to fix it and the problem remained till I realized it was the them that was doing it. Anyway, after another full un/reinstall, it still wouldn't recognize the unit. I did it again, I tried the German version method, all to no avail. Short of formatting my PC or reinstalling Windows I have no ideas. I know it sort of works because when I plug it in, the Simple Burner icon turns from the grey inactive to the red active icon. But when I open it up, it doesn't even attempt to read the disc. So, I'm stuck. All I have is like 20 albums on my one Hi-MD and the unit is pretty much useless without the software. Please help! Computer specs: 2.4 GHz P4 512 Mb SDRAM Windows XP Pro with SP2
  8. Okay, I've done a full clean re/uninstall of SS and my MD isn't recognized. It worked 100% before the uninstall. I was having problems with SS, due to my Windows XP theme. So the reinstall did nothing. Anyway, after a reinstall and a reversion back to the stock Windows theme, SS works fine, but my MD does not. I also tried the clean+German 3.003 method to no avail. I am running WinXP Pro with SP2 on a 2.4 Ghz P4 with 512 Mb of RAM. I can't figure it out. I've also tried deleting the device from Device Manager and getting Windows to recognize it (which it does) but SonicStage won't. Help, please! I have only the contents of my one Hi-MD right now. Any assistance would be extremely appreciated.
  9. I found out the problem. I was running WinXP with a modified skin/theme. Not a shell like Litestep, just the skin of the main Windows. So, apparantly SonicStage is incompatible with a modified theme. Mods, maybe pin this bit of information.
  10. I ran SS to import a disc. Well it's run with zero issues since I installed it. Now it doesn't work. What happens is the titlebar appears, the menu bar items (file, edit, view etc) flash rapidly and nothing appears in the main window where 'My Library' and whatever else should be displayed. If I use the 'show desktop' shortcut and then maximize SS again, I can make it display what I've selected, but if I select something else I have to minimize -> maximize again for it to appear. And when I go to try and click on the device (MD, CD etc) button the program hangs. Anyone heard of this? I tried reinstalling it (not uninstalled first) to no avail. If I uninstall it, will I have to re-import my library or do I need to back it up or what? Thanks folks.
  11. I just flat-out stopped caring. My 910 is covered with scratches and scuffs. I'd rather they weren't there, but it adds character I guess. Would anybody buy a "skin" (form-fitting, soft rubber that protects the unit) like they have for iPods if the made them?
  12. I have a rh910 and it's everybit as easily scratched as the rh10. In no way is this "case abuse". It just soft. Sony should really have specced a harder plastic during the design phases. This is a massive flaw. Sony should really have been more on their toes.
  13. Tekdroid: perhaps that's what I really meant to say.
  14. Wouldn't it be more profitable to actually promote MD? I mean the reason Apple's sold hojillions of iPods isn't because the Pod is a superior unit. It isn't. No, it's the hyper-trendy advetising campaign that's been running for like 3 years solid on TV, in print and outdoors. They made the iPod and it's users cool. Where's Sony? With their thumb up their collective arse waiting for people to buy these things that they know nothing about. Maybe if profitablility was where Sony was at, we'd have a home deck and at worst at least widespread awareness of MD as a format and a larger userbase.
