  1. I think that if the sony DVD handicam can record in realtime 5.1, It seems like Sony could actually create a nice Hi-MD unit with built in mic and multi line inputs (1 for FL/FR, 2 for RL/RR and 3 for CEN/SUB) and special sets of 5.1 headphones using a connector more like the remote interface (or even USB) for a more compact plug design. Connect it to the computer and then upload tracks to burn onto audio DVDs or listen to on computer 5.1 systems. Yeah... I like that...
  2. In a previous thread I said that I'm fine with the remote that comes with the RH10 but I was just wondering what else is out there for remotes?
  3. I was just looking around for more Hi-MD units just to see what's out there. I saw the LAM-X1 and was wondering if anyone actually shelled out the cash for this unit ($649.95)? I live in the US and since it is a Japaneese unit I was wondering if it would work stateside (does it need a power converter, suports english language, etc.) and is it worth having as a nice home stereo system or should I just stick with my computer and portable Hi-MD unit?
  4. If you're looking for an MD unit I would say get: - a portable FM rado (http://store.yahoo.com/challengeronline/minfmautscan.html) and a short 1/8" stereo to 1/8" stereo cable - An MZ-RH10 MD player/recorder (has MP3 support) - 10 blank Hi-MDs (for the 10 gig min.) This would be if you HAD to have MD format. I would suguest something else for you (like the iPod photo as previously stated) if you didn't need it to play MDs.
  5. Sounds interesting. Does Hi-MD suport anything besides 2.0 stereo? I think that this might come in handy if it suported 5.1 DD. If you paw through a copy of TigerDirect's mag they have 5.1 headphones. I would LOVE to have a portable copy of NIN- "With Teath" in 5.1 or NIN- "The Downward Spiral" in 5.1 (I have the DualDisc versions of both albums) or better yet BOTH on one Hi-MD. If anyone from Sony is reading this, think about adding 5.1 to Hi-MD. That would rock.
  6. I got a black RH10 from sony style. The US version came with a blank disc but the remote didn't have LCD display. It works for me but I can see how others would want a display. I usually use mine for listening to music at work (8 hrs.) In HI-LP mode the included rechargable battery seems to work for a long while. Usually I just plug it into the UBS for a charge during the night. The AA battery compartment is a bit odd. At first I had problems getting the damn thing on the unit. The screw on adapter idea is good for a tighter fit but I think that if sony had added on a snap on connection so you could snap it into place and THEN screw it on, it would work much better. I did a few little demo recordings with and an like it alot so far. I'm impressed with the audio quality and how well everthing has been comming out. I just have a mic going into a small mixer and then into the RH10 Line out and it works great. The suplied power addapter is great for studio use but I feel that the AA battery add-on will come in handy when I start making live/field recordings. I do most of my recordings in the studio using SONAR 4 Producer Edition by Cakewalk but I think using the RH10 to record samples instead of directly recording to SONAR (especially when in the field) would come in handy. The ear buds that came with mine feel a bit short. I know that the remote gives a bit more cable but most of the time I have the unit in my left pants pocket and have the remote attached to the rim of my pocket. I ended up using a $20 set of sony Walkman headphones I picked up at Radioshack. That presented the problem of having too much wire so I simply service looped it and wiretied it a few times. I think that everybody that has an RH10 hates the fact that it scratches and smudges so easily. Oh well. Maybe Sony can add some coting on the next line that they come out with. This is my first Hi-MD unit I've ever had. I picked it up because I needed to be able to do recordings using MD. My other units are a bit limited (a NetMD portable and an SP only deck). I think this unit is really neat and would recomend it to friends if they had the money for one. Most people I know still use CD playersand are impressed by MDLP and theire jaws drop when I tell them about Hi-MD.
  7. How much is it worth? It works fine and I still have the origional stuff for it. I'm also tossing in some discs (2-5) as well.
  8. Before I started using HiMD I had mostly disks recorded in MDLP with SS. I thought MD would be a good format to go with to help the 8 hours that I have to spend at work each day go by faster. I do have a few discs that I have in SP mode (CD transfer of KoRn's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 using my deck, a pre-recorded MD of Aerosmiths Greatest Hits album, the audio track from "Wierd Al" Live VHS). Sometimes I'll use SP for making small collections or if I want to share a CD with a friend that has an older MD player. I also like to use my deck in my home recording studio for personal demos but since I've gotten my RH10 I've been using that. It makes transfering live/demo recordings to my computer so I can edit them using SONAR 4 very easy. As for selling it, a friend of mine wants a player and would pay $50 for my old one. Based on this new info, Should I sell it?
  9. Just got my MZ-RH10 and I love it. I've been putting my entire music collection on Hi-MD (1 Gig and 300 Meg) disks and was wondering if I should sell my Net MD Player? I can use my MZ-RH10 for playback and recording right? My NetMD Player doesn't have a line in or a mic in so it won't do SP mode. Should I sell it (model number listed in signature)?
  10. I like my RH10. It's my friend So it doesn't have a cradle. It's still quite a handy unit. I'm just glad it charges via USB. My old NetMD player did quite the opposite. I'm also fond of the fact that It has a rechargable instead of a standard 1X AA slot in NetMD units. I was using rechargables from radio shack but I like being able to charge it while it's inside the unit.
  11. Hey everyone, I'm in a band called Cruel Memory (http://www.cruelmemory.com) and I was wondering if there was anyone else in a band that had a nice collection of their work that would like to trade a standard minidisc (formatted for Hi-MD) with their material for one with a few of my albums. To ensure equal trade, I'll pack on Cruel Memory album for each album on your disc. Cruel Memory's cataloge consists of a demo, four albums, and EP and a single. Everything besides our last two albums (World of Hate and Life & Death) is VERY hard to come by on CD. If anyone is interested, give me a shout. I need some new stuff. bass_hit
  12. Napster? I don't use it anymore. I usually either get free downloads from souckclick or purevolume. but if I were to go with a download service outside of Connect, I would go with iTunes. Because: 1) No Monthly fee 2) Pepsi loves doing iTunes promos. free songs with 1 out of 3 sodas (if your gonna buy soda you might as well get something out of it). 3) Sometimes iTunes will have free downloads (hard to find but yes, they have them). Sweet. Free + Free = FREE! 4) It has a nice burnner that will write CD-RWs that make it easy to make and expand a mix as well as rip the tracks into SS and put on a nice lil' minidisc. Last time I used Napster was on my 19th Birthday. I had a giftcard and forgot to cancel the free trial after getting my songs. My b-day pressent cost me $14.95 out of my pocket.
