no update to the shipping for international (u.s.) orders? or is it a definite "no" at this point? if there's no discount, there's still a drop in shipping by buying in bulk. right now, if you buy 5 to ship to the u.s. the shipping drops to about $40 instead of $70. maybe people want to arrange bulk orders? . . . maybe to the nyc area? -

thanks. now only if the shipping drops and i can convince myself to get the expensive one. (i know there are various reasons why the nh1 is better and that's probably the best deal. just gotta convince my wallet-brain is all.) -

that 10% fee only for australia . . that's included in the price listed? i'm asking because i remember seeing two sets of prices. one with the 700 for $150 and one with it for $135 or so . . 10% cheaper. thought maybe it was a bug, but this'd explain it. sefu, thanks for your work. i'm in the uncertain american crowd, too. but it's still cool. i'm not really clear on one thing, though: for the nh1 with the docking bay, can you replace the adapter (for use with u.s. voltage) and still use the docking bay? or is the whole docking bay useless? thanks. -
here's another: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MicroTrack-main.html still, price isn't really the same . .

alright. here's the paper. note that it's from a sophomore/junior level project, not graduate-level. i'm still pretty proud of it, though. wish i was doing stuff this interesting these days! also, the work was done by agata sikorski and myself and, well, read the acknowledgements to see who else is worth acknowledging. auditory.pdf

why does this double-posting thing keep happeing?

whoops. i didn't realize that i wasn't getting email notifications about this thread. anyway, i'll try to post my paper some time. when i mean "my" paper, btw, i had a partner, so credit goes to her, too, of course. anyway, i hope i can find a copy. thanks for all the opinion. the obvious thing would be to do some extensive testing comparing the response and how it's perceived, although that'd probably require time and money. maybe i should get my phd so i can excuse it as academic research. it's good to know that with any set-up, it'll probably sound pretty awesome, though. it might say something that i've only been able to hear the opinions of people using the in-ear headphone-style mics and not the out of ear headphone-style mics. (or maybe that model is just a lot newer.)

okay. i think i got a little lost in those past couple posts, so maybe my questions have been answered already . . but you say that there's a clear difference when you listen to a recording from someone else's ears, since they filter the sound differently. wouldn't it be in some ways better to record from over the ear and then have the user listen on out of ear headphones? that way, the sound will be filtered using the listener's pinnae, which will be maybe more natural, while maintaining a lot of the binaural effect (that is, the filtering from the head/body which doesn't occur when listening to sounds on headphones). also, am i write in thinking that if you record with in ear binaural mics and then listen to the recording with over-the-ear headphones, it will sound incorrect . . like the sound will be filtered through two sets of pinnae? (and i suppose listening to an over-the-ear recording with in-ear headphones would be bad, too, since this will have no pinna filtering.) thanks again for your responses! btw, if anyone's interested in ear filtering, i did some research work with it a few summers back. actually, it was about simulating the ear's filters for sound quality analysis. i can dig up the paper in the off chance there's a request.

i forgot to say thanks, didn't i?* *j/k. double posted. sorry.

hi. i'm new to the board. been interested in environmental recording for a while, which led me here. *anyway*, anybody have any experience with the SP-HMC-1 model (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-HMC-1)? they're outside of the ear instead of inside. i was considering them because i never feel comfortable with the in-ear headphones. can't figure out how they fit or something. also, is there an issue with the pinna filtering? what i mean is if the sound is filtered before recorded by the outer part of your ear and then when you listen to it, it gets filtered again, isn't that an issue? for that matter, do in-ear *headphones* do filtering to compensate for the fact that the pinna doesn't filter? thanks a bunch! great to hear there are other people interested in environmental recording. sounds like MD is the way to go as far as recording device, too.
