Hi all, I recorded a voice interview on a Panasonic walkman type tape recorder before I got my rh-10 last week. I connected the headphone socket on the tape recorder to the line in on the rh-10. I monitored the quality on headphones on the rh-10. There was a terrible hum during the recording that was not on the original tape. I tried the same operation a 2nd time and the hum was not as bad. I have the sound setting set to normal and the record setting is set to hi-sp. Is there something that I am missing? are there other settings that I should be setting? thanks in advance, Fergus

Hi zippysquirrel, I have also just received a new rh 10 but I do not have a mic problem, as of yet anyway. I have made several recordings without any problems. On a seperate issue, I downloaded SS 3.2 and now I can upload my live recordings as often as I like, this is a big improvement on SS 3.0 which deleted the file on your mini disk if you tried to upload it a 2nd time. Hi Syrius, I have sp2 installed but it looks like the error is not being caused by SonicStage according to Rombustors! I will install 3.2 soon as one of the major gripes I had with buying a hi-md machine was that you could only upload your live recordings once, I tried it twice and bingo - my file on the hi-md was erased without a warning. thanks to all who replied, Fergus

Hi All, I have just received my new MZ RH-10; I have read through the manual (poor enough) once, but I need to go back over some of it. I have a lot of questions but I will try to get answers myself first; however, there are a couple of questions that I need to post now! 1. Since I loaded SS V3.0 on my win XP (home) pc, every time I start my pc I get the following error dialog box from Sonic! “Your version of DLA can read files on this disk but you will not be able to edit or add to them” Is this a serious issue? (I already have another Sonic product installed – My DVD & Record Now, I rarely use these programs; is this the same Sonic company?) 2. Is it possible to listen on headphones to what is being recorded via the mic in port? I cannot seem to be able to do that! I would like to be able to monitor the quality of the recording as it progress’s. Thanks in advance, Fergus

Hi all, after the good advice I got on this forum last week, I am back looking for more. I have decided to join the mini disk community and I had decided on the RH910 recorder, it will be available this week at my local store. I live in Ireland and we use a 220V electrical supply. The RH910 is far cheaper in the USA but it comes only as a 110V unit. I could just but a 220/110V convertor but my question is this: are there any other technical issues that could arrise by using the USA model in Europe? for eg, Sony's software, Sonic Stage, is so complicated that I would not be surprised if I ran into difficulties, I read somewhere that there were some kind of adaptors that were region specific that came with each unit? After all that, I could buy the RH10 in the USA cheaper than the RH910 in Ireland, would it be worth it over the RH910? is the only difference the lcd screen? thanks in advance, Fergus

Hi Raintheory and Volta, some excellent tips in both these threads, even if I do not fully understand some of the lingo just yet as I am new to the format... Regards, Fergus

Hi all, thanks again for all the tips and tricks. My biggest fear is that I will record something very important and that the upload will crash!!! then I will not be able to upload a 2nd time... I am not as worried now as I can see that the worst case scenario is that I will have to upload in real time using one of veezhun or arasikan's tips. From all that I have read on this post, I will be buying the rh910 early next week (it's out of stock till then). I have a feeling that I will be looking for more info once I start using my HiMd machine. Thanks for all your help. Fergus

Hi Meryl, Greenmachine and Kurisu, thanks for your very helpful and prompt replies. I have a 1gb Creative Labs mp3 player that has a built in mic - the quality is so bad that I would never use it, not even for taking notes. This has put me off going down the mp3 route. Quality is very important to me and so I would be prepared to pay extra for that. I already have a Sony ms907 microphone that I use with my camcorder. I rang Sony's info number and asked about only being able to download a voice track once, the guy said that in sonic stage, there is a setting to leave the track on the md after uploading it, he gave me the impression that it could then be uploaded again if necessary? I am not so sure about that after reading some of the other post on this forum. thanks again for your help; these user to user forums are great places to get honest feedback on products. Regards, Fergus

Hi all, I want to buy a mini disk recorder to recorder interviews for my genealogy project. I would use it for music storage as well but I have an mp3 player for that and by the sound of things Sony do not make it easy to download from my pc's music library. I live in Limerick, Ireland and the cheapest mini disk recorder here that has a external mic in connection is the Sony MZ RH910. 1. Is this recorder right for what I want to do - mainly voice recordings? 2. Is it trus that you can only upload a voice recording once? I find this hard to believe as I cannot see the point in it, even from a security point of view. 3. Can you bypass this by recording from the headphone connection? 4. Is there a way of downloading a voice file (or any file) to a regular md (non hi-md) in the RH-910? Any help would be appreciated, Regards, Fergus
