I use the Senn OMX 70 (the ones with the earclip) in the gym & I hav to say they're extremely good. SQ is very good & the cable is nice & long so it doesn't get tugged if you stretch. They stay on well & are comfortable. The only downside is that they have a 64 ohm impedance so they're a little quiet if you have a low-output player. But I would definately recommend them.

Anybody know how these compare to their cheaper cousins, the EX85? I've been thinking about getting a pair of one or the other but $90 for the EX90 is pretty steep.

As far as I'm aware it's not possible to delete tracks on the unit, only through SS. If the tracks are still there but hidden it means I'll have to periodically remove everything, format the player & then re-transfer. Which would be a pain. Anyone else had this problem?

Somtimes when I delete albums from my S705 I get a message that certain tracks cannot be deleted. But htn the albums are gone & these tracks with them. But are they really gone or are they sitting somewhere on the player, invisible but occupying memory? I occasionally get a track on the player that cannot be playd but has no tag info. I'd rather not remove all the albums on the player to check this as I'd have to re-convert which would take some time.

VBR is generally always better, no matter what format you're using. So long as the hardware you plan to use supports it (& it's a long time since I heard of a DAP that didn't). The exception would be when you want to force a really high bitrate for maximum quality within that file format. Go with VBR.

I used to use this feature but for some reason Sony removed it from SS. The only thing to do is to use the bitrate & album/track length to calculate the aproximate space instead. As a rule of thumb, a 128kbps track uses 1MB per minute; therefore a 4 minute track at 128kbps (or 132, close enough) is 4 minutes. Obviously at 256kbps the same track would occupy 8 MB of space & so forth. The option to transfer a CD to an MD unit at the same time as ripping it to the library was also removed from SS, some time ago. That was a handy feature too.

You know you're not getting it for the capacity, MDs are removable, you're not limited by capacity. Enjoy the new toy

There doesn't appear to be any Euro-capping on the S705, it's louder than my (hacked) HiMD units.

You can't increase the volume of a Sony CD player. If it's the European version you're stuck with 1.5mW. Sorry.

Ypu would think if the salesperson found someone interested in the Sony model he would try to promote that over the iPod as it's bound to be more expensive. And yet he still recommended the iPod? He's even putting being a sheep before his own interests. That's dedication.

I intend to keep the NC22s for when the NC is really needed. I'm not impressed with their SQ anyway so will reserve their use for the plane or metro.

Return the unit for a replacment if you can. If you don't want to do that thenformat it through SS & see if things improve but it sounds like a hardware issue rather than soft/firmware.

Glad t hear there doesn't seem to be any Euro-capping. I just got an S705 & I love it, no hint of Euro-capping. I really, really hope Sony have abandoned that. Is the body on this plastic or is there some metal?

I think you're spot-on for all of the above. Don't install Connect, ugrade SS, hack for volume & then transfer music. Get that all done & you're set.

And the Great British rip-off continues with a PSP base unit fetching £139 or around 260 US$.

I'm surprised the A800 seems to be lacking both the standout features of the S706: noise cancellation & line-in recording. For me, the noise-cancelling really sets the S706 apart. It's rare in the DAP market that something so useful is added to a player normally new features are just gimmicks, like wifi or video playback.

No other models will work with the noise cancellig feature.

I've been tempted by the A1200 too. In the UK it's now going for £100 (clearing out for the S80X), about the same price as the 4gb S706. If SQ is better on the 706 then that makes it the better option, regardless of capacity. Plus it's got a better display, noice cancelling & should be more reliable due to the flash memory.

After reading through this thread I still plan on buying one of these babies. Almost every digital player has some level of static, some more than others of course. I know I'm spoiled for SQ with HiMD but I'm sure the Sony flash players have SQ that's still miles ahead of the competition, even with a little hiss. PS - You remember tapes? :-)

I think OLED screens do become dimmer but it's gradual rather than happening overnight. You're sure there isn't some power-saving function you've turned on.

ATRAC CDs only play on ATRAC CD players, not even on computers.

I don't think there's any automated way. You need to delete them from the library (but be sure not to delete the MP3 file itself, which Sonicstage can do).

I've read quite a few reports of this (mostly on this board probably). I think while they're under warranty they should be provided free by Sony. After that I imagine they can be had for a pretty low price from any Sony spares dealer.

I don't think the screen on this new player will display album art, I thinkit's just text.
