I know I'm clogging up the thread, (sorry ballsandy, and I totally sympathise with things not working). But A440 you've totally made my day with this statement! Classic!

This is copied from the "Rules for support-related topics in this forum - PLEASE READ" Link with a red-ish background at the top of the page: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=SR&f=62 "When making a support request, be as thorough with your information as possible. The more you tell us, the more likely a solution can be found. Include as much tech info as you can provide, including but not limited to: - Operating system version and service pack level - SonicStage and Simple Burner versions, if relevant - Whether codec packs have been installed on the system [especially FFDSHOW - turn off the mp3 bit] - the model of the recorder/downloader involved - Basic computer hardware info, including as a minimum: CPU type/speed; amount of RAM installed; USB interface version [1.0, 1.1, or 2.0] - List of applications that were running when the problem occurred, especially USB helper utilities for devices such as mice or cameras, antivirus app and their version, and anything else that loads on boot and is always open in the background [or the windows system tray, down by the clock in the corner] - Are you truly anti-virus free? This is required for all support-related topics. While some users won't be able to provide all the information asked, the more that is provided, the easier it is to find solutions - as well as the common elements between seemingly-unrelated problems." Check out the link though, these's more info there which might help. Hope you can recover your tracks.

Thanks so much for this information A440! This might explain why SonicStage is picky about what tracks it uploads (when it's working.) Thanks so much for this!

No, that doesn't help. The omgjbox.exe error is back again. Exactly how painful and time consuming is this meant to be?!

Man, how stupid am I? Sorry for the last posting, I'd not read that Quote about database problems with SS from the "Hi-MD/NetMD Software FAQ., Are things not working? Check inside" Will just try that now. Sorry again, this actually is properly wasting people's time. Sorry

Sorry for taking time to reply, been trying to make the MDAC repair utility work and also been checking out all the postings brought to my attention by Kurisu about Sony discontinuing the Hi-MD format... Can't believe they might be doing this when it's such a fantastic product... As for SonicStage 3.2.... As Sebastianf suggested, turned off the firewall and Norton and did a clean install using the official SS 3.2 installer from Sony Site. It still didn't work consistently, only transferring a couple of tracks before the omgjbox.exe error came back. Tried downloading MDAC repair utility from the downloads page, but couldn't get it to work like the macropool website. So in frustration left it for a couple for days. Tried using SS3.2 again, and it transferred like 30 tracks to the PC without a hitch! It was incredible! Unfortunately, I had to go out and take my MD player with me so had to disconnect it, and it hasn't worked since! It always gets 50% of the way through the 1st transfer before the familiar Omgjbox.exe error or it just shuts down without warning. (The thing is, don't understand why it worked then and doesn't now - haven't done anything differently at all.) Before coming back to the boards to ask for more help, tried downloading the MDAC Repair Utility again (from the downloads section here.) Following the instructions on the Macropool website, tried all their suggestions as far as I could but no joy. Couldn't manually install most current MDAC Release for XP SP2 according to Macropool website. (However just noticed the help on "database problems with SS on the Hi-MD Software FAQ" see below.) Thanks for even taking the time to read this.

Thanks for your time Sebastianf. Yes, I did the clean install using the official SS 3.2 installer from Sony Site. I'm trying this again though and will turn the firewall and Norton off like you suggest. I'll also try the MDAC repair utility. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks so much for all your help.

Dear All, I'm sorry to add more postings about problems with SonicStage since there seem to be endless others. I'm also sorry if this issue has been covered and resolved somewhere else. Did try the useful google search tool but couldn't find the answers. Sorry if I'm wasting people's time. I'm having problems with SonicStage 3.2! It recognises my MZ-NH600 fine (as long as it hasn't had to close early the last time I used it, see below) and plays the tracks fine. However when I try to transfer tracks to My Library it hardly ever works. More often than not I get an error message saying "Omgjbox.exe has encountered an error and needs to close". Sometimes it just shuts down in the middle of the transferring a track with no explanation or warning. I checked that I have the lastest Window updates and am virus and spyware free and then tried doing a clean re-installation of SonicStage as the pinned topic ("Hi-MD/NetMD Software FAQ., Are things not working? Check inside") suggested. (Although I didn't have the 1st 2 directories in the "to delete list" and I didn't disable my Norton antivirus software. Was this a mistake? Also is RealPlayer part of RealNetworks, because, thinking it might be, I deleted the former. (Didn't have anything which looked like RealNetworks though.) Was this a stupid mistake too?) However, this hasn't improved anything, if anything, it works even less frequently now - one or no tracks are transferred before it has to shut down. Not really knowing anything about computers, (though I'm learning a bit through this incredible site! ) I'm quite hesitant to try it again. Also, now I have 2 other issues: - I no longer have MD Simple Burner, (even though I installed SS3.2 through the link on the pinned topic above.) I had it before when I downloaded SS3.2 from your link initially. - I backed up all the tracks I'd been able to transfer to My Library on both the hard drive and a CD (I'm paranoid!) After reinstallation of SS3.2, when I tried to re-import them from the hard drive, I'd lost all "unlimited copying rights" from my analogue recordings, and it wouldn't even play them because I didn't have the rights. Thankfully, the CD backup worked fine, so it's all OK. But does anyone know why this happened?/ How I could prevent it in future? Can just keep backing up on CDs, it's not really a problem. Details: XP, Service Pack 2 SonicStage 3.2, (no simple burner at present, see above) (Haven't installed any CODEC packs on system as far as I'm aware. Searched for FFDSHOW and Explorer can't find it.) Unit: MZ-NH600 Intel Pentium 4, 2.5GHz 512MB RAM Not sure abt USB interface version, in the USB part of the Driver Information under Systems it says "Intel® 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Controller - 24CD" Am I right in thinking this means it's version 2.0? The unit is plugged in at the front of the computer, directly into it, not at the back, I'm not sure whether this makes a difference. Not sure what else was running when errors occur, no other applications were open. I have a long list of processes that seem to load on boot but have no idea what they do, there are 52 of them at the moment. It seems excessive! Here's a list of some of the stuff open in the background: The Webshots Desktop 2.0.0.4324 Mouse Driver Version 9.79 Picassa Version 2.0.0 Belkin Wireless Network USB Utility version 1.0.3.5, driver version 1.2.0.0, firmware version 0.5.0.0 Norton Antivirus 2005 version 11.0.11.4 Retrospect Express HD 1.0.196 From looking at the Processes list, I think there may also be: FotoStation Easy Those are all the ones I recognise, but I can list all the 52 going on at the moment if you think this would help. Thank you for taking the time to read this post, I'm very sorry it's so long. And thank you for any advice you can offer.

Thanks very much to both of you for your advice. Yes Sebastianf, it's always the same discs, some work fine, and I think you're right, will take it back to the place I bought it for them to send it to Sony. Thanks for the advice on leaving it in pause-rec mode too. Think I read the same posts, but weren't sure if they were talking about Hi-MDs or normal. And thanks Low Volta, I am coming to the same conclusion as you about this "overloading" theory when I think about the situations in which I've had problems. I'll try uploading and editing on the PC. Thank you. I have managed to recover a few tracks on the problem discs through SonicStage 3.2 (I stupidly didn't even try this because I thought it would just cause more problems...) Anyway, thankfullly SonicStage recognises that there is stuff on the disc! Transferring them seems to be another battle altogether though! I keep getting an "Omgjbox.exe has encountered an error and needs to close" which is making the process slow and painful! If it worked it would be so fantastic! (I should have looked around the forum on advice for this problem too before posting this reply!) Anyway, just wanted to say thanks!

Dear All, Although I've been using old-style MDs for 3 years and was a total convert, I've only recently discovered this very helpful community forum. I had a fantastic Sony MZ-R7O which was great until it started deleting all my discs at the beginning of this year! I'm a total MD supporter so I bought a new MZ-NH600. It worked for a bit, but I've had so many problems recording & compliling great discs which then need "formatting to record or play". Everyone I know is now telling me to convert to MP3 but I want to find a solution to this problem! I'm just wondering if anyone can help or advise about the incessant problems I've been having with recording on my Hi-MD recorder - I keep getting the error "FORMAT DISC ERROR". It's happened 3 or 4 times (you'd think I'd learn, and not lose all my edited tracks every time...) I can't check if it's the music source because it's the only radio I have with a line out. (It's a digital radio, but an analogue line out if that makes any difference). I've tried using brand new Hi-discs after checking this site and concluding that it might be some faulty Hi-MDs, but that doesn't seem to help. So maybe it's the player/connection/source! It often seems to happen after I've edited and labelled most of the other tracks already on the (Hi-)MD and then leave it recording while I go out - so it records to the end of the disc and then maybe has a problem storing the music? So unlike some of the other postings on this site about this error, it's not to do with SonicStage. I was just wondering if there had been a consensus about what caused this problem for other people - the MD unit/cable line in/faulty discs/faulty source etc... or if anyone had any advice on recovering the hours of work put into each disc before they were rendered "unformatted". Many thanks for taking the time to read this. P.S. Also, is it a bad thing if the Hi-MD player is left in pause-record mode? And how long is this acceptable for, couple of hours? Just wondering if that might affect things or if it damages the machine. Thanks.
