Well,6 band equaliser allows you to set both bass and treble feature . in b/w new Audio walkmans from Sony usually have Clear Bass (it has less distrotion in comparision to digital bass )

I guess,I have understood your problem. Front buttons of HD3 aren't working after opening your HD3 ?like play ,Fast forward ,top and down ,but menu button and volume buttons are wroking . Well,front buttons are connected via thin wire(circuit one ) that needs to be inserted into board before closing up the unit .Its little tricky .I will try to post the pictures of my HD3 ,to help you out .
