    I've downloaded some video clips through iTunes that were from NASA. They had subtitles and I could read them no problem (I have the A-806, which has the same screen size). You have to turn off the information that appears across the bottom of the screen (the progress bar, the battery indicator and the running time), which is easy enough to do.
    Thanks, could you please post a close-up screen, I'm just curious to check if it is worth to buy a video player... :P

    Hi, great review!

    One more effort: did you manage to play videos and pictures?

    Will you please upload some close-up shots of the screen when viewing videos and images? (you may Pause the video)

    Is it detailed enough to read subtitles? (thinking of Death Note anime and such) I'd like to have such information before buying one.

    @Akai Kenshi: it's 30€ actually. anyway, the smaller brother has an FM tuner and a new hardware. I can't explain why it's cheaper...

    aaah!! drag and drop, eventually!

    I like the controls of the S61x, but not the round shape and the smaller screen...

    The new A81x looks the same as its father, a pity they didn't add FM to it. I'm wondering if some chip actually changed inside or if it's just a disguised software upgrade... uhm...

    Also, why is S so much cheaper than A??

    Damn, I was considering buying a 808, but I would mainly use it connected to my hi-fi and car stereo...

    Do you think I can have it working despite there's no dedicated line-out fature?

    Can such a feature be implemented via firmware or does it require specific hardware? Do you think Sony will make an effort to add it in near future? (is there even any firmware update planned?)

    Well, keep in mind I still don't have an mp3 player, waiting for the "perfect one" since I first saw NW-HD3, which looked superb to me, but I didn't buy because not available in black.

    since then I've been looking for a pure mp3 player, the direct successor of a cd player, but couldn't find one which satisfied me.

    I'm still waiting. I must admit all those new brands like the mentioned Cowon did a great job in the last years, but I still prefer known brands like sony, samsung, etc. Don't like the Ipod.

    Right now I think the time has come. I'd like to try the a800 myself, first. I might also consider a samsung or something similar, 8gb flash, but I still would like a sony.

    Don't know...

    I was wondering if sony is about to release something new for winter season, if not I guess I'll have to buy a zune, which has very intuitive interface at a very competitive price. I'm asking because on the other hand, zune wouldn't beat an upcoming sony player in terms of sound quality and battery life.

    Any insider news?

    If you hook up the player to the pc it will restart to the first song since, but when you are listening to it normally and turn it off, of course it will play the last song played.
    ah, well. that's fine to me.

    i think the essential bug in the player firmware, is that it start playing the 1st item on the device, I have a album, with a title ab...... It always starts playing it, and it's number 1, in my Top 100, even thouhgh I hate the track!!!!

    Having my least favorite track, as my Number 1, means there is something wrong....

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

    So even if I was playing in shuffle mode it won't start with a random track when it boots?

    Or, at least, it won't start with the last track listened?

    same here.

    at sony center downtown they only have those in the serial# range which don't work.

    at many malls are finished and won't be oredered.

    at the electronics shop in my block they have only a silver one.

    at another big electronics shop i've been told they are just finished. today they are calling me to tell me if there is a black one left at their shop in a nearby town.

    fingers crossed.

    if I don't find it, I'll go at sony downtown and ask if they sell me a not-working one for less than 20€ and try to repair it myself. or try to ask if there's a chance that sony italy has one left in milan...
